Y'know, we have a female just over a yr. old and she does the same thing on a reg. basis. The only thing different is that we had her fixed. For the 1st 4 months of having her, she laid 4 clutches totaling 72 eggs. Our herp. vet said may be a "chronic egg layer" and suggested we have her fixed. But she still does the "glass/nosey pokey I want out" thing all the time.
As a matter of fact, she just finished wigging out. She was frantic to get out, like something really spooked her.
My non/point is I don't it's a hormonal thing.....wanting to mate, I think it's "hey, that bird got to close to the window" or "I'm bored sh*tless and I want out".
But if she "freaks" on you, take her out but watch her. Athena's freak-out was 15 min. ago and she still wants to hide. Something spooked her big time.

Hmmm, that IS bizarre!! Miette is definitely not spooked but she does the nose butting thing all day long. We do have her out quite often and then she runs everywhere. We have to keep a good eye on her because she goes up and down stairs. LOL

And how funny...I've never heard of a dragon getting "fixed"! How much does that cost??? Our beardie has never laid eggs, and as far as I can "feel", I don't think there's any "in there".

Getting one fixed is pretty pricey. It was around $650.00. But she's our baby and to us she worth a lot more. One her follow up exam, the doctor had Athen's ovaries in a glass jar w/formaldahide and she was able to point out the next cluster of eggs. Athena was going gravid for the 5th time in a row. Blood tests showed that she was losing calium. She wouldn't eat during gestation. Dr. K said that if she is a chronic layer then Athena had maybe 5-6 months before the egg laying would have been to much and she would die. So we had Dr. K do the surgery. There was a risk involved. But the only options were watch her die or take a chance and maybe save her life. So we pulled the money together and Athena pulled through like a champ.
When they're gravid, they're miserable. The constant digging day & night. The extra weight they carry. Not eating, constantly aggitated. Back and forth to the lay box. Preggy lizzys can be an ordeal.

If you evver need a lay box, it's really simple to put together and does'nt cost much at all.
We found that play sand from Home Depot worked best for Athena. We put the sand in a 20 gal. tank and had it damp...like sandcastle building damp....built it up one one side so she was digging into a hill. We dug out a little starting spot, enough to get her head in and she did the rest. She liked to burrow downwards to the bottom of the tank. Once she started digging, her handled the rest. You'll know she's laying when her head is poking out from the hole.
After laying, she'll want to bury them, we helped Athena with ths part as she was so tired. After an hours rest, we gave her a warm bath. I know you said that yours wasn't preggy but if she ever does get that way you'll know what to do. Plus you can always come here for advice.

Malibu is currently getting ready for her 3rd infertile clutch of the season.
I took her outside today....she does this dance...she opens her mouth & waves her head around reminds me of a parade in China!

What do you do with the eggs? Do all females lay infertile eggs? She is 2 years old and has never laid any.

We froze the eggs and then buried them in the back yard. We believe that her 1st couple of clutches were fertile as our male did get to her but the 3rd & 4th clutches were not fertile. The 1st clutch looked really healthy but as she continued laying, the quality of the eggs was decreasing. It wasn't easy taking Athena's eggs from her but we knew that it was financially impossible and too time consuming to raise all those dragons.
She happy know though.

Its part of their behavior. Out of the 7 we have id say 5 do it all the time when they want out. it goes in spurts tho. I never put anything over their viv or wrap them so they cant see out. To me its like us being put in a paper bag lol Don't get me wrong some times it can drive you batty but i just deal and let them be who they are.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
