Bio Substrate for Beardies?

Hey guys, what you think about the Terra Sahara BioSubstrate? It is good for beardies? It is there a chance of impaction due to this substrate?

I'm not familiar with that kit. If a bioactive substrate is set up properly and maintained it can be quite good. It requires several layers to allow proper draining as well as maintaining a balanced ecosystem using different kinds of bugs as well. I don't advise using one unless you have a large enclosure that wouldn't lose too much livable space by setting this up. My guess is that you could set one up for much less money by avoiding the kit and building from scratch.

Better for geckos and bluetongues and frogs , not suitable for arid zone reptiles such as beardies.

Great place to cultivate bacteria and viruses and fungi . I think definite impaction risk. Wont last long when a dragon decides to have a good dig.

I've heard good things about biodudes products but wow that kit is expensive! I don't think I've spent more than $50 per setup.

Bioactive is a great option for dragons if you are willing and able to maintain it and have the space to sacrifice. Just like a fish tank you can't set it and forget it or your system can crash but it's not super delicate. I'd also advice plenty of usable space that isn't on ground level so your dragon isn't always on the dirt if it doesn't want to be.

Pepper has been on bioactive substrate for 3 or 4 years now. Literally anything is an impaction risk, but a healthy dragon shouldn't have any concerns with a soil substrate, as long as largeish bits are sifted out any they incidentally eat would get passed. As for pathogens...The soil microbes out compete the harmful bacteria while microfauna will manage molds/fungus by eating it. I've personally found my arid setup easier to manage than my temprate and sub-tropical ones.
