Bathing

Hi I was just wondering, how often should I bathe my lizard? I haven't bathed her before and she is 3 years old and is it a necessary procedure? Also what benefits does my lizard get from bathing? Thanks

From what I've read it appears to help hydrate them. They get alot of hydration from veggies that they eat but bathing weekly supposedly increasee their life span because they will be hydated. Not sure if this is actually true but I've heard it from breeders.

I have mainly used bathing before for babi that won't eat greens. Seems if they are eating only live food that's dusted they certainly can't be getting enough water to stay hydrated. So I bathe babies like this 2-3 times a week.

Also It helps keep them clean. I know it's different because they're reptiles but every body loves a nice bath to stay clean.

It can help them shed easier. I always bathe my beardies at least 2 times a week when they are shedding. Makes the whole process go much smoother.

Can definitely help them poop. Most of my adults are almost potty trained like this haha.

Bathing is not "necessary". As for benifits - depends on your lizard. Some dragons will drink in the bath, which is a benifit to hydration, and some will also poop. I'm not sure pooping is a benifit for the lizard (though it can be for the keeper) since a healthy animals should poo just fine without stimulus. I only give baths when my guy gets dirty. Some dragon also find baths very stressful.

Dragons will get most of their hydration from food - most greens are around 90% water, so keeping greens fresh and juicy is important. Live food is still a good source of water - most bugs are around 70% water. Water can also be offered orally by a spritz or dripped on the snout.
