Baby Nanaki

Good Evening, everyone!

I just wanted to stop by and introduce Nanaki to everyone here on the site.

According to his caretaker, he is a Hypo Trans. Beardie with some Paradox genes floating in there as well. (His momma was a Paradox and she's gorgeous.)

I just received him a day or so ago and was surprised at how easily he settled into his temporary tank. I say temporary because I have ordered a full-sized vivarium for him and it should be arriving within the next week or so.
Size wise, he measured up to about seven inches or so; I'm expecting him to add to that with that nice shed going on right now. As far as that scab y'all see on his tail, the little dumdum got his tail caught in the tank door at his caretaker's home. Thankfully, it's healing nicely and he doesn't mess with it.

Honestly though? The thing that amazed me the most was the personality attached to this little firecracker. He's perky and curious, constantly running around his tank and watching me every time I move around in my bedroom. (Stalker) He's a climber too, which...probably explains the scab. I was holding him for the first time on my bed and the little guy moved around on my hands before climbing up my arm. Nestled into my elbow for a moment before perching on my shoulder.

He's going to have his first bath with me tonight so I'll have to see how it goes. Plus, I got a nice hammock for him so I get to see how he reacts to this new item.

Hopefully I can add more to his misadventures as time goes on!

I'm glad to see he arrived safely! Sounds like he's a pretty healthy, energetic little guy. It's fun to watch them explore and run around when they're little. They are very curious little guys in general. Keep a close eye on that tail to ensure it heals and the skin around it doesn't start to constrict which could cause issues lower down on the tail if it cuts off blood flow. If it is completely healed over, perhaps put a little bit of plain aloe on it so that it stays moist as it heals/sheds.

Will do; I assume just the normal aloe Vera like we humans use on sunburns is safe for him?

Well, just finished with his bath and got mixed reactions. It went from attempting to escape and a "wth???" Stare to him eventually settling down and enjoying himself.

Had a stareoff, didn't win.

He also snuggled into my elbow again before cuddling up on my shoulder after I dried him off. I have a feeling that's gunna be a habit as he grows. :)

Yeah just plain aloe vera gel should do the trick. It's probably not likely to become an issue but it shouldn't hurt to apply a little just in case. Poor guy probably doesn't understand the bath. It's good that he settled in. I usually put a washcloth at the bottom (I use a turkey roasting pan as a bath tub) to provide some traction. It sounds like climbing and snuggling on your arm is his thing. It's good to enjoy those little quirks.

I'll see if i can grab one of the little travel tubes of the stuff :) Thank you!

And I don't plan on discouraging that quirk. I just hope he's not going to be too heavy as an adult. my poor arm!

Nah they don't get too heavy. An adult usually weighs somewhere in the range of 450-600g.

Well, I did his second bath this morning and upped the temperature a little bit to help with his shedding. Again, did not react well to being put into the water and tried to escape....again.

Would have succeeded if I hadn't grabbed him in time. I'm starting to wondering if it's the sensation of being picked up and floating he doesn't like. He settles down just fine once he's either in my hand and I'm not moving or once he's in the water for a few moments.

Put him back in his tank and he instantly started rubbing up against his driftwood perches. Shed is going nicely but he's the picture of absolute misery right now with his constant rubbing and scratching.

I can't wait to see his full colors. The glimpses I saw under the old skin are gorgeous!

Poor guy. I'd imagine shed cycles are like sunburns for us. Definitely not comfortable. As long as he calms down and will sit in the bath or splash around a bit he should be OK. All of my guys have flailed a bit out of panic but settle down. Some really don't like it and will keep trying to get out so if he keeps fighting after a few seconds I wouldn't bother with the baths due to stress. If he's happy after he settles in though it should be OK.

He settles down after a few moments in the water. I think it's just mostly the sensation of me carrying him around that still startles him a bit.

It looked like he attempted swimming around the tub but the water was shallow and I had placed a washcloth on the bottom so he wasn't slipping and sliding as much.

And I imagine that's what it feels like too. Every time he stopped rubbing or scratching, Nanaki would shoot me a look that was equal to a "This is all your fault hooman.....". Hopefully he'll cheer up a bit once he finishes.

I did noticed him eating the shed skin after a good amount of it came off. He didn't seem affected but...is that safe for them to do?

lol frickin' hoomans. Always causing problems. It sounds like he's OK with baths and is acting like my guys do. Eating a shed won't cause a problem.

Okay, cool. :)

I"ll have to see if I can get a good picture of him when I get home. I'm very excited to see his colors; I also wanna see if he got some paradox splotches. :blob8:

So Nanaki finished his shed yesterday while I was at work. Came home to find shed pieces ALL over the floor of his tank and him sulking in the corner under his driftwood.

Wanted absolutely nothing to do with me so I let him be for the night; He is now back to his perky self.

Pretty Baby! Gorgeous coloring!

Got some shots of him post!shed and on his new hammock that I laid out on my bed. He still doesn't like the sensation of being lifted but he does seem curious about the outside. Almost went flying out of my hand to investigate the window sill so I'll probably take him out tomorrow morning in his bath tub. :D

FINALLY got my UVB light in last night and fixed it up for Nanaki this morning before I left for work. He had been very blagh after his shed but, after putting the light up, his personality took a 180.

He was alert, he was running around, he was stalking me through the glass again...I'll definitely have to consider getting a harness for him in the near future. :D If he likes the UVB, he's gunna jump for joy at actually being outside. Any suggestions for someone who crafts those leashes/harnesses?

He's lost a little bit of weight because my shipment of bugs didn't come in when I expected it to and the ones I bought as an emergency a day or so ago...Instant sour smell when I opened the container = instant trash dump. So I am making a pitstop at Petco this afternoon after work so I can get some worm cups. Hopefully these, and some salad, will help tie my guy over until wednesday/thursday.

I'm glad he enjoys his new light. Proper UVB really does make a huge difference. That's too bad about the batch of bugs. Hopefully you can pick up some better ones today. For a harness, I usually see people make them from parachute cord and some beads. The one I have is just a cord with one of those spherical clips that is spring loaded and sits around the cord to hold it together. It is simple but works well.

I'd like to introduce him to it ASAP since he is so "get 'em from the get-go" and on the move constantly.

I'm hoping the resulting effect is he learns that he has freedom to roam when he's on it and also he gets to go outside without me having to constantly carry him. :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
