Archer's thread--new pics on page 4!

Archer is so cute and amazing, i thought i'd make his own thread. i brought him home April 18th. at first i didn't want to handle him until he was settled, so i was referring to him as "the baby." about three days later i eased him out of his tank, but he didn't seem to mind me touching him at all. i held him for a while before finally looking at his tail (thanks google images!) and determined he was male. the name "Archer" had been swimming around in my head since it had a nice ring to it, plus i enjoy the FX show "Archer" (i could listen to H. Jon Benjamin read the phone book--oh that voice!) and thought it could be a good unisex name since it could refer to the title character or his mother. well, as i was looking at the tail and making certain he was a he, he pooped on me. that pretty much settled his naming right there since the cartoon Archer is a jerk (to put it very mildly).

anyway, enjoy some pictures!

(i plan to update it with more pictures as he grows).

this is when i first brought him home:

he was a bit cold from the car ride (and i wasn't sure if he'd be up for being handled yet) so i ripped open his box and let him warm up and crawl out on his own.

he was about 7 inches long when i got him.

Archer likes to stretch his back legs out while basking. i call these his "Lucky Legs." my parents have a weenie dog named Lucky who lays with his hind legs straight back, so it amused me when i caught Archer doing the same (and of course i texted a picture to my mom immediately).

Archer's other favorite place to lay is balanced on my laptop. he even falls asleep up there. it's especially cute when he tries to move across it from one end to the other in this sort of shuffle-sliding movement.

this may not be surprising to anyone here, but i've already fallen in love with Archer. and he's adjusted to life in my home with me, my boyfriend, my turtle, and my kitty quite well. my kitty, Princess, barely notices him. she'll sit by his tank and watch his crickets move around during feeding times, but other than that she doesn't really care that he's here (i've previously owned hamsters and rats which she didn't care about either, so i knew bringing a dragon home would be fine).

oh, and i started keeping a growth chart to keep track of his size. it's been awhile since i last had a baby animal--my cat and turtle have been with me since i was a kid, so i'm excited to watch something grow :D

Love the legs! (My dog used to sleep with her back legs out like that, too - she stopped a year or two ago, sadly.)

He's so very, very cute! I'm not familiar with the character in question, but from your description of character and dragon, sounds like they share a name well!

thanks for the compliments everyone!

i just caught Archer making his first escape attempt--he was basking on his log when he jumped up and landed on the thermometer on the back tank wall. thankfully i remembered to snap his screen shut. as of right now, he's still hanging on the thermometer, staring up at the screen as if saying "okay, now what?" i got a picture which i'll upload when i get a chance later. but omg it's so funny watching him try to be devious.

He still looks bigger than the one I got yesterday, but maybe pictures make them look bigger? How is he doing now? I can't really the the sex of mine yet bc he/she is so small. I think it's luck to weigh 2 grams.

I have lil guy (what I'm calling him for now) for 4 weeks until he goes to my friends daughter for her bday. I'm hoping to get him to eat good before going.

How long did it take Archer to eat when you brought him home?

Archer was about 7 inches when i first got him, but he's up to 8 now. it took awhile to get him to eat, but that was mainly because i had bad information. i was offering cricket that were too big for him because i listened to the saleslady. he did eat a few of the large crickets, but then i realized my mistake and bought him the small ones. so only in the last week (i've had him three weeks) has his appetite really increased (though he's still not eating his greens).

here are the pictures from his escape attempt:

as you can see, there's only one step to his escape plan: jump to thermometer. then he just kind of hangs there thinking about step two, which usually ends when he gets tired and falls.

as i pointed out to my boyfriend, that adhesive on the thermometer isn't very strong. if Archer keeps this up when he's bigger i can't imagine the thermometer staying up lol.

Right now, lil guy is about 5" long. So you've had him for almost a month now? And he's grown a lot right? I'm just afraid I'm not going to be able to give this lil guy up in 4 weeks because he's still going to be too small!

Love the pics of the escape attempt. Looks about the same size as mine. The tank I got has glass doors that open in the front so the top is always locked, it had a foam that looked like rock Vinney liked to climb, but all of the crickets learned they could crawl behind it and hide so it had to go

he's grown about an inch in the time i've had him, and his tail went through a shed a few days ago (the base of his tail is noticeably thicker). his body sort of looks like it might shed soon too. with his increased appetite i'm hoping he'll grow faster.

Archer's log makes for a cricket hide, so i take it out now before dropping the crickets in. i let him feed, and when he's done i get the excess crickets out and let him have his log back.

so my boyfriend and i have been taking walks in the evening, and i started taking Archer with us. now when he sees us getting ready to walk i reach in the tank and he jumps in my hand lol. and he's very calm when we're outside. he clings to the front of my t-shirt and looks around. he never tries to jump off (i can usually feel him tense before he moves, but he doesn't when we're outside). it's fun taking him with us. i have a harness for him, but he's still gotta grow into it before he can use it. he's a little over 8 inches now, and his appetite has increased quite a bit. i can't wait till he's bigger, but i'm sure when he's full grown i'll miss when he used to be small.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
