Coincidentally, someone was just asking on the Australian beardie board whether one of their new little ones was an Eastern and it was pointed out that Centrals are pink inside the mouth and Easterns yellow. Eastern beardies are on the same licence here in Victoria as Centrals but aren't seen as much as pets; they don't have quite as nice a temperament. They're good at black beard display, though, aren't they?
I've seen one Central that colour in a shop--it wasn't for sale but was being looked after by a staffer who'd gotten it from a very neglectful owner. Sadly, it had such severe MBD that it had to be put down. I don't think anyone in Oz breeds hypermelanistic bearded dragons either; jet black blue tongues yes, but not beardies.
If you can take a photo straight down of the top of the head, P. barbata has different head spikes than P. vitticeps. They also have different bone structures in the beard, and can stick it out all fancy and flat like the one in that wild photo.

sooo shes not black, she was on purple sand that had dyed her that color. i soaked her and it came off. shes not in great shape but she will get better now that i have her
I had thought about the colored sand, but even her face was covered so uniformly! Poor thing. She looks pretty dehydrated and a bit thin. She looks like she has fat pads on head or tail. Keep an eye that her tail doesn't have retained shed and that it's sloughs completely when she does.

what are fat pads? r they harmful? ya shes really really thin. they were feeding her nothing but gel cubes of bearded dragon food. and she had no source of water in her tank. they said they would mist her once a week
Fat pads are good (to an extent) are where they store their extra fat reserves. They have them on the head, tail under the arms and in the neck. The ones one the head should be some shaped, not sunken in like hers are. Her tail should be thicker at the base, not like a gecko or anything, but not so skinny.
Not to be rude, but are you familiar with taking on a starved/dehydrated rescue?

i know what im doing. i work at a pet store where we take on stuff like this all the time because of carless owners. we get snakes and lizards in all the time looking like this.

lol always good to check i cant wait to see what color she is when she gets healthy again. top of her head is sunken in and you can see her spine and hip bones. but shes very active and even had eggs in her old tank. im just hoping she dont develop or already have bone disease
If you want to see her true color, maybe keep her off of any colored sand? If she's on orange sand, she'll be dyed orange. Since you've decided to go with sand, maybe stick to un-dyed sand? I'm actually asking this, not trying to be smart.
