Shelf Liner: Is there any health risks or other drawbacks?

I have always preached reptile carpet or butcher paper to my customers and recently I have tried some shelf liner (the rubber non-adhesive type that doesn't have holes in it) in a few tanks. This was brought on due to some toenail incidents with carpet and the environmental impact of paper. So...

Beardies can go 2-3 months w/o food?!

OMG look at this craigslist ad for a beardie I just saw. Here's the cut and paste version. I took the liberty of putting in bold the most alarming part. __________________________________________ BEARDED DRAGON - $99 (SOUTH TAMPA) Date: 2011-08-11, 1:41PM EDT FOR SALE: BEARDED DRAGON. Less...

    Adult housing

Perhaps, it depends on how large of a bin you plan on keeping your babies in. We only house three babies per 30 gallon bin which takes up three shelves on our rack. Thats three bins per shelf. The clutches can be 25-30 eggs each.

    Teaching them to eat greens

This is also effective with my dragons. They respond to movement. I sometimes have to hand feed veggies to the 2 month olds. It just depends on the dragon I suppose. If I feed insects first, veggies are ignored.

    Is it bad?

By 9 months you should be pushing the greens and weaning them off the protein. According to my vet feeding that many crickets will give them long term kidney damage . I feed my dragons at that age around 7 to 10 supers or about 30 crickets about three times a week. High protein is for growing...

    Adult housing

If you have lots of breeders, then be prepared for lots of enclosures indeed. We keep several types of "adult" enclosures. We keep our adult males in tanks at least 55 gallon in size individually. Our females are kept in home made enclosure that are 5 ft wide, 3 foot deep, and 3 foot high. We...

    Teaching them to eat greens

Greens are the first thing we offer our babies in the morning. We hold the first daily protein (insect) feeding until noon because, otherwise, we have veggie haters as well. Sometimes we toss some phoenix worms in the veggie dish to encourage interest. Sometimes it the choice of green. Some of...

    Is it bad?

I have dragons that are just genetically smaller. As long as her weight suits her length she is fine. The pic doesn't show her hip bones poking out or her eyes sunken in. Those are signs of an underweight dragon. You can add some more variety to her insect selection to add fat such as waxworms...

    Spike: 1 YEAR OLD!!!!!!!

Leucistic dragons are clear nailed with little or no color including pigment in the striping. Some of my leucistics look a bit yellow when young but eventually they white out. The yellow is especially pronounced with the camera flash while taking pictures.

    Help I need ideas

Honestly, we stay at pretty cheap hotels so no one has ever noticed my dragons. Of course, we keep it low key. People usually won't question a rubbermaid tub but a flashy carrier they will. The dragons that I travel with are used to being in events and marketing shows for my shop so...

    Lighting Help for Newbies (:

Brands are so controversial but here's what I have experienced. I have used Zilla bulbs as well as Zoo Med and have used the appropriate meter to test both. We actually test bulbs for customers as a free service so they know exactly when to replace. I personally have not found the Zilla bulbs...

    Quick question bout UVB/MV bulbs

Dragons can be sunburned by too much UVB. I had a leucistic juvinelle under a MVB that was burned even though the bulb temps were no more than 105F and the light was well away from the dragon. It was just emitting too strong of UVB on his lightly colored skin. So now I don't use MVB on my white...

Why is my beardie sleeping like this?

That actually seems to be one of the most common beardie sleep positions. :D They like it!

    Cleaning

We do a bleach soak of all enclosure furniture. Be sure to do a good rinse before putting them back in with the dragon. It can discolor the logs unfortunately but this is the only method I have used to disinfect wood. The faux plants should fair well with the same cleaning method.

when do i put sand in?

We never use sand at any age. I have seen too many customers with dead dragons (both adults and babies) impacted on sand that promises to be safe. My advice, like many, is to stick with reptile carpet, tile, or paper. If you insist on using sand, use playsand, wait until the dragon is a year...

    Help I need ideas

When we travel, we just use a rubbermaid 30 gal tub. We toss the clip lamp, bowls, etc in the bin on while on the road. We usually can store other items we are carrying along inside as well. We use a carrier for the dragon. Then we set up the bin at the hotel or destination. If it's only for a...

IS THIS SETUP CORRECT? PICTURES !!

If you decide to get a fixture for your UVB that is not specifically made for reptile use, be sure to use a metal fixture. I speak from experience that over time the UVB makes plastic brittle and it will begin to just fall apart. The reptile specific ones have a UVB resistant paint. It took a...
