Firstly, welcome to the crazy world of beardies! Your among the best (: If you find him doing this on the warm side of his cage it is very normal. Beardies tend to gape their mouths to help regulate body heat, much like a dog would pant. My girl does the same thing! Hope this helps :)

How big is their cage and what is the set up like? Pictures would be great. For now I would suggest separating them as soon as possible before one of them gets seriously injured.

One this you could try is a bird ladder. They're flexible so they're easy to shape and they may be easier to find a way to attach to the tank

Have you noticed her being extra sluggish or sleepy lately? This time of year they go into whats called brumation, which is almost like a beardie hibernation. They cut down on eating to try and empty their stomachs to prepare for a "deep sleep" or in captivities case, a long comfy nap!
