Baby Nanaki

Good Evening, everyone!

I just wanted to stop by and introduce Nanaki to everyone here on the site.

According to his caretaker, he is a Hypo Trans. Beardie with some Paradox genes floating in there as well. (His momma was a Paradox and she's gorgeous.)

I just received him a day or so ago and was surprised at how easily he settled into his temporary tank. I say temporary because I have ordered a full-sized vivarium for him and it should be arriving within the next week or so.
Size wise, he measured up to about seven inches or so; I'm expecting him to add to that with that nice shed going on right now. As far as that scab y'all see on his tail, the little dumdum got his tail caught in the tank door at his caretaker's home. Thankfully, it's healing nicely and he doesn't mess with it.

Honestly though? The thing that amazed me the most was the personality attached to this little firecracker. He's perky and curious, constantly running around his tank and watching me every time I move around in my bedroom. (Stalker) He's a climber too, which...probably explains the scab. I was holding him for the first time on my bed and the little guy moved around on my hands before climbing up my arm. Nestled into my elbow for a moment before perching on my shoulder.

He's going to have his first bath with me tonight so I'll have to see how it goes. Plus, I got a nice hammock for him so I get to see how he reacts to this new item.

Hopefully I can add more to his misadventures as time goes on!

Well that's something at least. It's always funny to watch animals who don't meet in the wild meet for the first time. Mushu always seems confused by my koi fish. Seems to think he can run through the tank.

Had a slip scare again, I placed my baby on the bed and he zipped off towards the windowsill.

After looking outside, he attempted to make a move at the space between my bed and the sill. It's a pretty good drop for a little guy like him; scared, I grabbed at him and terrified him in the process :( (beard fluffed and mouth open scared)

I'm just hoping he's okay. That I didn't hurt him....ugh.....

Aww it's ok Pokemon! My 10 year old bearded dragon (RIP old man) did flips off my bed, jumping down from the bed, taking a drop to the wood floor and yet nothing happened. He was a senior lizard and he could have had internal bleeding or any broken bones but it never happened Im sure though Nanaki is a baby I'm sure he's just as fine as my old boy. I hated that he did any of that and of course freaked out picked him up and cuddled and he just looked at me like Im nuts. Broly however isn't a stunt double like old man was he just casually falls off like he means it LOL. I pick him up too and he too looks at me like Im nuts.

"What's this momma?"

So my little guy finally got his corn bag and blanket in. I put it in his tank and he's been licking/biting at it while glancing at me every so often.

I think he likes it but not sure yet.

He looks so cute on it. Is it just full of corn and a place for him to relax? or do you use it for another purpose?

The corn bag is seperate from that blanket.

Once I get his viv I plan on getting a "cave" where he can hide in and place the corn bag in there with the blanket during the cooler months.

I might use it for whenever I have him out of the viv, so he has something familiar to snuggle with :)

So I think I can flag it as truth: Nanaki does not like bathtime. He, once again, tried to jump out of the water tub but I was ready and fixed it so he jumped into my hands.

Does not mind pets on the back, jaw or head but still leery on being picked up and carried around.

Could it be the temperature? Scaley doesn't like being put in the water and if it's too hot she'll jump out.

I find if I place her in and keep my hand supporting her she calms down quite quickly and will start to enjoy her bath.

I did, but for some reason he won't willingly stay in there long. I'll give that a try and see if that works out; I might even try the bathtub next time too.

On a side note, Coogs: what's a good way to introduce the outside world to a young beardie? Especially one like mine who goes from calm to a mach 12 in an eyeblink?

Well, I'd make sure she was always on her leash for one. I've had to run after a run away beardie before in my yard, so she didn't have far to go. They are fast little things.

I like to use a little sling that is basically a scarf I wrap around me and tuck her in. She hangs off the scarf on the inside so she feels safe then wrap the other side around her and tie it. I can keep a hand on her that way and her head peaks out so she can keep an eye on things. She also sleeps in that sling on me so she's used to it and I have a way to carry her with my hands free.

I started with just taking her outside a little at a time. She was really freaked out to start but she's getting used to it now. She quite enjoys camping now.

One thing I've noticed is that she doesn't like a lot of open space above her, which makes sense given one of their predators are birds. She's more comfortable under a gazebo, or some trees, the truck with the sunroof closed etc.

I'll have to give it a shot then.

On to happier news, as my little guy finishes his shed, I can say it looks like that scabbed area had healed up quite nicely. Plus, but this I am not 100 percent certain, it's looking like he's got some faint splotch coloring along his tail.

So I'm thinking those paradox genes are popping up but I'll have to get a decent picture to be sure. I'll also send one to his breeder since he owns a paradox and post it here for y'all to see.

Another bathtime story:

So I tried something a little different; I put his bathtub on the ground on top of a towel and held him in the water for a moment before placing him fully in. Predictably, he bounced out so...I picked him up and put him on the towel in my lap.

Nanaki scampered around, bounced off my lap and scampered more before proceeding BACK to his water tub and climbing back in. The little bigger then started to splash and swim around while I just stared at him in disbelief.

Very strange little lizard indeed.
He did puff at me this morning when I was giving a horn worm; I was opening the top of his tank and I don't think he noticed until my hand was directly above him. But a peace offering of a worm and some greens calmed him down. :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
