I am trying to get my juvenile beardie to switch to Zoo Med's canned insects, but he doesn't seem to like them very much. I am trying the 'if you're hungry, then you'll eat them' tactic, but it's not really working. Any tips?
A lot of dragons won't eat those things, they are gross lol. It's not natural for them to eat dead or dying bugs, as to them, that is a sign of sickness or disease. Fresh live food will always be best.
I only use these in true food shortage emergencies (like when bug shipping was delayed over the holidays). Don’t replace live insects with canned stuff, canned stuff for reptiles should have the same place as it is in our life — stowed away for when food is not readily available. Also in an emergency, never feed them an all they can eat buffet of the canned stuff, try to guesstimate how many to give them as they can get impacted if they eat too much of it.
