Hey guys, I was just wondering, what times do your beardies go to sleep?

For some reason mine curls up in the corner at 2PM + , and goes to sleep! I wish I had more time in the day to play with her, anyone know why she goes to sleep so early?

Share some funny bed time stories!

Hi Nathan, glad to hear they're both shedding, that's good to see! Even though it's uncomfortable for them. And it's so nice to hear that Lia is getting alot more active, that's all good news. I know Cyrus is active, too, it's so good for them. Mine can be lumps during the day while I'm at work, but they get active on the weekends when I can get them out. Didi is the main one, though. He's on the ramp all day when I go to work. If I left him in his tank, he'd hurt himself trying to get out, so he gets his way (spoiled? Just a bit  ) Gabriel at supers & squash yesterday, it takes him awhile to digest real dragon food, so when I got home last night, even though he was sound asleep, his tummy was making seriously loud noises! It made me jump at first, couldn't figure out what the noise was, until I realized it was him digesting!

Haha poor little Gabriel!! Yeah it's weird how they're all different eh, such personalities!

Good news! I offered Lia some more greens today, and waved it around for a few minutes, and at one certain angle it seemed to catch her eye and she went for it instantly (did that ever happen to anyone, or may she have sight problems?), while she chewed that (I feel so bad for this), I slipped another piece of green into her mouth and she chewed that, and another, and another, and another. After about 6 mouthfuls, I felt so bad I stopped and gave her a chance to eat it herself again. Again at a certain angle it caught her eye and she went for it, however then she stopped eating them haha. Although a great day for progress I suppose.

Also, I jsut put her in the bath to aid her shed. She's so smart!!! She kept dipping her head down to get the water over her beard shed, and then she did something that is like...something I'd expect a monkey to take 5 years to figure out. She positioned herself right under the pouring tap, and placed looked up, placing her beard directly under the 'splash zone', this peeled the shed down a lot. She now has shed on either side of her beard, like on the sides of her lips and ears, and then right down the center of her lips and beard, there's a 3 inch long strip of shed that goes all the way down her mouth, beard and stops at her chest. That's where she placed the water, and now she's walking around with this saggy shed that she keeps stepping on haha, poor girl. It looks so uncomfortable, it's so hard not to help!

Hi Nathan, you can help Lia is you want, just by removing that strip she keeps walking on. If it's just hanging there it won't take much to remove it. I've been known to use scissors to just remove the part that they're walking on, it's very uncomfortable for them. So don't hesitate to help when it's already off & just hanging there. I've always helped my beardies with their sheds, first with water, then taking bits off that are just hanging. So go for it, it won't hurt her & she'll be relieved

That's great news that Lia is eating greens now. I don't think she has eye problems, it's probably like my crew, it has to catch their eye, and you never know what will. So good for her, keep up the good work, before you know it she'll be eating all on her own. Lucky you. Mine all have to be hand fed & sometimes I slip extra in their mouth when they're licking their lips, not uncommon & don't feel guilty.

Hey guys, Lia shed so much! She popped her head, her whole underbelly, 1 arm, end of tail, and one side of her back him haha, strange girl. They're both eating really well, and Cyrus is still in pre-shed. But I do have one concern right now!

Lia is so excited recently. 24/7 she is at the front of her viv glass dancing, once or twice she's been digging in the corner, and I know that's a sign that she may be gravid. But I've only seen her dig twice, the rest just looks like she's glass dancing to get out. I just had Lia running around, and put Cyrus on my leg out with me, and she instantly head bobbed pretty fast, definitely not a submissive one.. could that be that she's going to lay eggs and is warning the scary males away or something? Is getting a laying bin a very urgent thing? I know if they can't lay they can become egg bound, but what do you guys think? Thanks!

The biggest thing for gravid females is leaving little poops/urates around. That's the sign to bring on the male to fertilize the eggs. Normally, if she wanted Cyrus to "jump her bones" so to speak, she'd be slow bobbing & he'd be the one bobbing with black beard & stomping, so she may not have eggs. The little poops is the definite sign, as infertile eggs are really hard to feel in their bellies. We could never figure out when Sweetie was gravid until she started the contstant digging, small poops, and then she'd lay an egg in her tank. That was the time to bring out the laybox. Some beardies won't use layboxes, they lay their eggs in their hides. Gina's Digi & MoMo both lay eggs in their tanks, they won't use layboxes at all. So look for those signs first before you get a laybox. Once you do, keep it out of her tank, put a light over it to help keep her warm & keep putting her in it. It may take a week before she'll settle down. So keep me posted! Oh, the other sign is massive weight gain and she'll stop eating about a week or so before she lays. Hope that helps!

Ah okay, thanks Deb! She has had quite a few tiny poops. In the bath she gave me a few big ones, but in the last 2 days I've had 2 ones about 2cm big, along with a regular sized urate.

I'd love to bring Cyrus out to fertilize them, but unfortunately I couldn't afford all the adorable little babies

I know what you mean Nathan, it's really hard to resist. So get a laybox together, I used to use a double box with non-fertilized potting soil, about 10" deep, then she'll have lots of space to dig. And let me know how she's doing, but it could be another few days before she's ready to settle down to lay. Sweetie always lay an egg in her tank or bath before she set to laying, so I always had some time to get her box together. Good luck!

Ah okay thanks Deb. I came home again this afternoon to another tiny poop. I took a picture of it, in comparison to a £1 coin, that is about 2cm long.

So this is the poop:

And then I took these pictures last night at about 6PM, and both of the babies decided that it wold be a lazy evening and just slumped down on their logs until 10PM when their lights went off haha.

Nothing like a good bed of greens to sleep on! They are so crazy with their different sleeping positions & areas. So cute & yes, that's the poop, sometimes even smaller, so sounds like she's got eggs. Just keep an eye on her & make sure you have that laybox ready. Once you have it together, put her in it and see how she does with it. It might take awhile, sometimes up to a week, but if she has eggs she'll eventually start laying them. Let me know. Loved the pics, she looks so comfy in the middle pic. How's Cyrus? Give them both hugs for me!

Nathan, where are you, just realized hadn't heard from you in awhile. What's new, how are your babies. I loved the pic of Lia sleeping in her salad, comfy! We're all doing well. Gabriel is free of parasites, YEAH and he's off babyfood & eating alot of regular dragon food. He's going to be weighed today, but last week he his 362g. He doesn't look at all like he did when I got him. I'll post a pic to show how much he's changed. He's even grown in length 1/2". The rest are all doing well. They all pooped for me this am, so have spent the last hour cleaning up 5 poops, but at least they were good enough to do this on a Sunday so I'm rushing out for work. Now it's calcium, vit/min time, then food & then Mom is having a nap! It's been very hot, 30C daily, and I don't do well in heat, my apartment sucks in the heat & holds onto it, no cross-ventilation, just 2 fans running all day & part-night, so it's hard to sleep. So tired today, but at least having nothing to do but get some books to the library, then lunch & nap time!

Hope all is well at your end, you've never been away this long, starting to worry about you, so please update!
Take care,
Deb

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in so long. Thanks for thinking of us Deb haha, I've been busy constantly over Summer and now as it's drawing to a close I've made some time.

First off, just a few pictures of the babies for you guys.

Lia got full of energy and didn't stop waddling for a good 10 minutes. It must have gotten her excited too hence the blackbeard.

A nice nap after a hard days running

It's hard to see, but Cyrus decided to throw out some sexy arms, but just held them in mid air, they rested on nothing for at least 45 minutes!
DSC_0211.jpg

Cyrus must be getting older now, he has decided that this time he'll shed his back in patches!
DSC_0410.jpg

And now for weights ect. Cyrus has begun to love his supers, and now eats about 30 a day. He's now at about 403g and 18inches. Lia is a curious girl!! I thought that she was beginning to look slimmer so weighed her, but she has somehow in fact gained 100g! She came to me at 460g, and is now 580g haha! My guess is she's put on muscle? I give her roughly 4-6 worms a day, although she could eat SO many more if I let her, however she refuses to have her veg. She's had none for me since the first time.

I took a video of Lia in the bath today for you guys, just so you can see her movement. Any clue why she swims so awkwardly? She's always done this, and I always put it down to her weight, but what do you guys think?

Thanks for checking in guys!

Cyrus has really grown & it doesn't surprise me that Lia has gained weight, they do that without even trying! I enjoyed all the pics, glad to hear they're all doing well! You could put a bit more water in the bath for Lia, then I'm sure she'd swim more. Give that a try. I put the water up to the top of my middle finger for Leo, then he's got deeper water to swim in by the tap & it tapers off at the other end, so he can stand up. It works well, as he loves to swim, so does Gabriel. And just to update you, Gabriel is now 386g at last weight in, eats a ton every day, is off babyfood for good & digests really well. He's so cute, gets into lots of different poses & he's now a bit part of the household. The other 4 are doing well, too, they've all gained weight, Rubio is up to 800g now, so they're all nice and fat for brumation. They're even starting to slow down a bit. Anyway, feeding time, talk to you later, just glad to hear that you're all good!
Take care

Good to hear from you again, Nathan. :) Lia and Cyrus are just gorgeous, and Cyrus looks like he is growing some length to him lately. Just wait until he stops growing lengthwise and starts filling out. Speaking of filling out, Lia is just gorgeous. She doesn't look overweight to me at all. I like to see a nice, healthy dragon, especially this time of year going into brumation. :)

Hey thanks guys, I'll be sure to catch up on all of your threads very soon don't worry!!

Today Cyrus started to peel his belly and back, I was getting worried, he's had stress amrks all on his belly for about 2 weeks now but he seems nice and white under this shed. Cyrus has been trying to eat his fake plant for the past 3 days, so I've been giving him extra salad, and he finished up a whole big foot long leaf of collard green today, so that made me happy. And I persuaded Lia to take a nibble of hers too, first she was intrigued by me feeding it to her, and then I put a worm in the salad bowl and she went and had about 5 or 6 strands of it, but it's a good start!
The roaches are doing well, got a good few hundred and thousands of babies in there now. I've fed Cyrus and Lia a few each to see what they make of them, Cyrus is in love, however Lia tries to run away from them, she doesn't like them one bit, anyone ever experienced that haha?

For a big girl she sure can move

Other than that, I picked up some food yesterday and found they had about 6 new babies in the shop, could be no longer than 4 inches each. And my brother loves Cyrus so much he's decided he's gona try and build his own viv and get a little baby, so that's pretty exciting. I know he won't do any research, so I'll try figure it all out haha. He's a builder and can sneakily take an extra bit of wood or whatever for a job and then use it for the viv! Really excited actually haha, I love beardies!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
