I've had him for about 3 weeks and he has had the stress marks the whole time.i know they are not always because stress but i just want to hear peoples opinions.
he eats pretty good. he is also shedding right now which i think might be a reason why.
my tank setup i have the reptisun 10.0 high outpit 24 inch. and the mega ray 100 watt basking\uvb bulb. 40 gallon tank.

As you mentioned, the dark marks are not necessarily indicative of stress. They are quite common in young dragons and I feel the name is misleading. They are often seen when they darken to bask and warm up.

I like how your tank looks and is configured - quite nice! I can help you fine tune the lighting to make sure everything is just right for your buddy. Is your ReptiSun the 24'' T8 bulb or the 22'' T5 with a 24'' fixture? One needs to be set closer to the basking area is all. I also suggest turning the fixture so it's shining downward over the basking area rather than outward. It will be much more effective this way. Can it be mounted to the top of your tank?

The 100w MegaRay is a nice bulb but has a narrow beam of UVB. It is most effective at about 10-12'' above the basking area. At this distance you may not get the right heat gradient across the tank which is important. Do you have an IR temp gun or a digital thermometer with a probe to accurately measure surface temps? Or are you relying on the dial thermometer on the back wall? The dials aren't very useful for measuring surface temps so I'd use an IR temp gun or a couple of digital thermometers with probes (one for the basking surface and one for the cool end). You want the basking zone to be between about 100-110 with a gradient down to about 75-80 or so on the cool side of the tank. You might need to play around with some different lighting configurations to achieve this. Think of it as two parts. One part is appropriate UVB exposure which is set by putting the UVB lights at a set distance based on their output. The other part is heat gradient which depends on basking light wattage, distance, and output (some can be dimmed).

thanks and its the reptisun 10.0 t5ho 22. i was also wondering about if i should make it face down or not i had it facing out because i didnt want him to have too much uvb since he already has the megaray 100watt. but i will face it down if you think it will be better. and i use infared gun for the tempature. basking area around 105-109 his log where he sits alot is around 100-103. and cool side is about 80-84.

edit. oh yeah also the light fixture has a reflector. so i know he is getting some ubv with it facing out but do you still think i should face it down? let me know whenever you get a chance thanks.

OK temps are good. I'd set the fixture facing down for best results. With a T5 you don't really need the UVB from the MegaRay. You could use that as a portable basking lamp for outside the tank or travel. It doesn't hurt to have it there since you have the correct heat gradient though.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
