Ok guys so as I mentioned the other day our 3rd attemp at being a beardie owner we went with the little guy from our Petco store because the worker actually had beardies of his own and took care of the ones at the store very well. We are on day 5 I think and he is still kickin it. The guy likes to lick EVERYTHING all day long he licks everything he walks buy, he licked the vet, and the scale etc. He also had his first
bath due to shedding already he drank up all of his
bath water and swam around happy, he also hung out with me as we basked in the sun on our nice chase loungers : ) He did a full shed in 2 days and really only wanted to eat 5 crickets or less each day, and stayed black all day but today his shed is done with and he is back to eating everything in site, think he on his 15th so far today and he still has two more feedings to go.
I just can not believe the difference between him and the other two, when we returned the 2nd one the lady at Petsmart was yelling at me for killing it but the truth is....they dont take care of them right which just kills their immune systems. I put that lady in her place in front of everyone in line at the store because she was being so rude to me ...and she knew I was right. Feeding them 1 - 3 each and only 3 days a week is so wrong! So ar ethe temperatures, because there is no bask light, just a uvb tube (Im hopeing it is at least a UVB and not just a reguler tube light) so so much wrong.
So to everyone, you hear how important it is to see how they are taken care of, well it really is important. It is hard because you get so excited to buy one and we went to 7 pet stores and 6 of the 7 were taken care of the same bad way, it is hard to wait and look around when they are for sale every where you go. Just because you will bring it home and spoil it does not mean it will be healthy if where it has been living (the pet store) has not been spoiling it. weakened immune system means its harder for them to survive the huge levels of stress they get when going to your new home.
I suggest to all to take your times, go to every store in your area and also look for local breeders, make notes and speak to staff on how they take care of them there now, then make your decision, i would even suggest adopting a young adult which was going ot be my plan C.
We have a keeper now! He is SO healthy. We bought him a 75 gallon tank actually that we are getting ready. Waiting for him to grow 4 more inches first. : )
Thanks to all.
