Why can they pull shed but we can’t?

Hello,

Just start off, I’ve never “helped” my beardie shed. I’m just curious, why is it that when they’re shedding we can’t help, but they can just rip it off?

For example, my beardie is doing a full body shed right now, and this morning used her claw to pull off a piece of shed from her stomach. I’ve always heard it’s bad to do that as a person, so why can they?

Do they have like a sense of when it’s ready? Or is it after a certain point when it’s ready, it’s okay to take off?

Yes, but what’s the difference between her rubbing and pulling it off and me pulling it off? Or do they naturally regulate when they pull it off?

The difference is that they will stop when and if rubbing or pulling on it gets painful because it's their own skin. We don't know if what we are pulling is actually hurting them, and we don't know if it's actually ready to come off like they know.

Ah okay, the way my beardie does it seems random, but that makes sense that they would stop if it hurts. Thank you!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
