78f sounds fine for the cool end. Usually between 75-85f for the " cool " end - 110f is also alright for the hot end. I'm pretty sure it's 105-115F - Mine is usually at about 108F and my beardie is always near the top of his rock soaking up the heat.

The purpose of the hot and cold sides is if they get to hot or to cold, they use the temps to regulate their body temp. Don't forget that inbetween the cool and hot sides there are various temps. So if he is 10" away from the hot end it might be 90F etc, mind you this is just an example.

Cavey, how old is your beardie? If an adult, they tend to like it cooler whereas babies prefer the 110 reading. For the cool side, a range of 78 to 82 is fine. But, if you have an adult and want to lower the basking temp, you would use a lower wattage bulb there. If you want to raise the cool side temp just a little, you could us a 25 watt household light bulb which would help raise it a few degrees on that side.

It's also a good thing to remember that your beardie will be sitting up higher under the light so he will be actually a few degrees warmer than the actual basking surface temp.

My adults prefer temps of about 102 to 104 and will avoid the basking spot if it's any higher. Does your beardie stay in the basking area for very long?

So, you're using a probe thermometer? If so, place the probe end so that it is resting on (touching) the basking log then wait about 45 min for the temp to stop rising before getting the final reading.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
