When using Tile for Substrate

When you are using tile for the substrate, and an Under the tank heater--do you put anything down between the glass tank and the tile? I have a thermometer right on the tile and with the heater under the tank, and two 50 watt night (red) basking lights the tile gets up to ridiculous temperatures. 107-112 degrees F. I am thinking I will put a thin piece of styrofoam in between the tank and the tile.

I use tile and don't use an undertank heater.

That is why I don't, their temps fluctuate too much.

Why do you have red bulbs at night?

Any light will disturb their sleep.

I have been shutting the red (night) lights off as well as the UVB, but they had the warmth of the under the tank heater. I have turned it off because of the temps getting to high, so what keeps them warm enough at night?

I use tile and an under tank heater for my daughters leopard geckos. I put paper towels between the glass bottom and the tile. I do this so the tile will not scratch the glass, not for heat control.

if you want to control the heat at night, you could use a CHE (Ceramic Heat Emitter) controlled by a thermostat.
