I have about 70 or so super worms that I feed to sunny yes i know he isn't 16 inches long but i didn't know what when it was recommended to me and it was the only thing he would eat for a while and poops every day so i figure he is fine its not the only thing he eats either. If you want to bag on me about it please do so in a private message i just deleted my account on another forum because of this question. I want real answers not hate messages telling me i am going to kill him and i should get rid of him. SO main point here i need know what to feed them i do not have a substrate maybe some paper towel i could shred and put in there i don't know but i am getting them from a new place because petsmarts all died in 2 weeks i was really mad about that. So i have them eating bread and carrot but i wanted to know if there was something else i should give them. I ave heard of using fish flakes but i would like to feed them something household not something i have to buy all the time. With no job and my grandma retired we cant afford a million dollars to feed my actual pets food. Any advice would be helpful

also i get my supers from Midway tropical fish & pets
i dont know if any of you live around there but they are nice people with great products and prices

Thats there info they also sell crickets but i am not sure for home much mice other lizards they are real nice not a big cooperation trying to rip you off and there stock seems healthy.
15 for $1 so you can get 60 for like $4 and some change
Check them out if you live near there they helping me out made a special order because they didnt have what i was looking for.

...you could just use oatmeal or bran as their substrate and offer a piece of carrot as moisture. That's really it. Superworms are really easy to take care of.

As a side note, people on this board don't really tend to jump all over people without reason. The lecture was a little unnecessary but I guess understandable if you've had bad experiences in the past.

I was just a little aggravated about it literally it happened to me today. Someone i thought was a kind person told me

quote "you are going to kill that poor thing if you are so ignorant as to feed him super worms you need to get rid of it. People like you piss me off because they get something and expect it to be easy and its not you need experience to own a bd so before you go buy something do research on it and stop being such a fool"

So i deleted the post and the account and got on here and i was still mad about it but i wanted a straight answer. I apologize if it offended you in anyway it wasnt my goal to do so i just wanted to make it clear i didnt want to be harassed about it. I should have taken time to cool off but i didnt and that was my mistake so again sorry next time i will know that people on here wont do that. I know i would never say those things to someone.

Also thank you for your information.

No problem! And I understand that people can jump to judge a little quickly, but realize that we only want what's best for these little guys. What size is your dragon now?

When we got him from the pet store he was really skinny i think he is still under weight when we got him he was about 10 inches long and 34kg and that was about 2-2.5 weeks after we got him. now he is bigger

Ok so he's not terribly small. He is a little smaller than what's recommended (as you've come to find out) but if you give him a couple every day, honestly I don't think it would hurt him. You say that he's still pooping daily so that's good. The biggest fear of feeding too many supers is impaction, which it doesn't sound like is affecting him. As long as his staple is another feeder that's no bigger than the space between his eyes, he should be good with you feeding supers as a treat.

If you think he needs fattening, you could use a couple of waxworms a day as a treat as well. Those definitely shouldn't be fed too often since they are rather high in fat. Supers are also higher in fat than most other feeders (according to what I've read).

Have you tried ordering crickets online? You can buy in bulk and it's definitely cheaper than buying from any petstore. Or have you ever looked into feeder roaches? I believe one dubia roach is equivalent to 4-6 crickets of equal size. They also don't have the magical escaping abilities that I've found crickets have. My roommate found a couple in his room once when they were in a sealed cricket keeper.

Okay so i have his staple as Phoenix worms he eats 4 supers morning and night and he eats 15 Phoenix worms morning and night and he has freeze dried crickets in his food dish all day long. He also gets a salad with moist pellets.

I have tried waxworms with him he hates them with a passion he would lick on up and then chomp on it and they were room temp to but he spit them out again and then refused to eat anymore so we decided to get rid of the waxworms

We have tried him on live crickets a few times but it cant be his staple because my grandma does not want them in her house. He is also very lazy and does not like working for his food never has really. He would wait until they got close to him and would lick at them and if they got away he would sit and go to sleep it took him forever to eat 15 about 30 minutes. So no we have not really ordered online. His main diet is supers and Phoenix worms and from what i have read supers can be a staple in the diet once they are big enough i also read they have more fat like you said but also more protein that crickets so thats why we feed them to him. The phoenix worm place said we dont need to dust his phoenix worms because they are already really high in calcium but i put some on his supers and salad just a spray and some on his cricket because he doesnt eat anymore than 15 or so anyway.

Ok that sounds fine. I would still cut back on the supers to maybe 2 total but that's up to you. Phoenix worms are a good staple so I'd stick to that and it sounds like you've got your act together. I use supers as a staple for Darwin, my bigger dragon who's about 1.5 yrs and 20" or so. He gets 8 every other day. Are you dusting with a multivitamin? How many Phoenix worms total does he get (15 or 30 per day)? How old is he?

Ok yup just do what you were doing, but with less supers. If you just want to get rid of them altogether, see if there's someone on your local Craigslist who would buy them off of you. You might be able to get $5-7 for them. Or even if you wanted another, albeit weirder, hobby, try breeding supers yourself and maybe by the time that he's ready for supers as a staple, you'll have a good colony going.

Darwin gets a salad every day of mostly collard or turnip greens and every other day will get 8 superworms. I order 500 superworms at a time and it lasts me several months. I keep those supers in a plastic shoebox-like container (well really it's a plastic drawer for one of those cheap shelving things you get at Walmart) with about 1" of oatmeal and I give them 2-3 baby carrots every other day depending on how quickly they eat it for moisture.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
