what size megaray?

I'm setting up a new house for my juvi beardie. I just bought a 55 gallon aquarium. I believe it is the standard size. It's pretty deep (20" maybe). I would like to use one bulb to heat. I was thinking the megaray, or t-rex. Which size would be sufficient, 100w or 160w? I dont want to spend a fotune getting this right, so anyone have a setup like this? Thanks

ya i have that exact same setup but am now building my own as this tank is not wide enough for an adult beardie. but i just use a 75 w halogen bulb from lowes but had to mount it about two feet away so i would say a 50 w would work very well. for uvb a the best i have found is a reptisun 10.0 flourescent tube good luck

anyone using an MVB in a 55 gallon? watt size?

I can help, I've used both a T-Rex and Megaray in that size tank, both are/were 100 watts. I have the MVB sitting on top of the screen in a deep dome and have a distance of 14" from the basking spot. Basking temp is about 103. On the cool side, I have to use either a 25 or 40 watt household bulb to get a cool temp of 80. My temps are checked with both digital with probe & temp gun so make sure you use one of those to check them.

I wanted to add that my female is 5 yrs old so she prefers the 103 temp. But, since yours is a juvenille, you will probably want the basking area a little higher to get a higher basking temp.

My 55 gallon is about 19 1/2" high.
