Basil my bearded dragon was too fat so I started feeding him mosly greens and crickets only twice a week.
But now he got a bit thin and wont eat anything with calcium powder on it :x so he hasn't got a good amount of calcium for several weeks :(
I'd like to feed him large phonix worms becase they have a lot of calcium, but they may not fatten him up enough :(
Should I feed him super worms for a time and then get phonix worms :?: or are horn worms better :?: i'd really like to get off crickets as they annoy me and make a mess. Basil is a very big beardy so the worms wont be a problem right :?:

I just tried the hornworms on my very picky eater and she adores them. 1 worm is the equivalent of 36 crickets. She doesnt even chew them, just sucks them right on down. Poor worms, never had a chance...I feed her an extra one because she is underweight. When she gets back to her fighting weight, so to speak, Ill give her less.

Phoenix worms can be a staple and there is no need to dust if you use them as a staple. They can get pretty pricy tho.

Vegetables and worms are perfectly fine. The following worms can be used as protein staples: silk worms, black soldier fly larvae (under the brand names of "Phoenix Worms" and "ReptiWorms), hornworms, superworms (your bearded dragon must be at least 16 inches in length to properly handle superworms), and someone please chip in if I'm forgetting any others, thanks.

I hate crickets myself, and my parents won't allow roaches in the house either. Switched to black soldier fly larvae a long time ago, and my bearded dragon and I have been much happier ever since, ha ha.

If you don't mind spending a little more money than you would for pet store worms I highly recommend horn worms. They are very healthy for lizards. The only draw back is that some lizards decide to only want to eat the horn worms and nothing else. But they are a healthy option.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
