What is wrong with my beardie's toe?

Pongo's toe has been like this for a while now. I was hoping it would get better, but it's just gotten worse. I think that the second claw-looking thing is some sort of weirdly grown scale and it seems to hurt him if I mess with it. His actual claw doesn't come out of his toe as much as his other claws; the scales have grown over it. None of his other toes are like this and I have no idea what caused it. Is it just stuck shed that got out of control? If not, what is it? What should I do to treat it? Can I treat it at all?

Hi there, is Pongo having trouble walking and does he seem as if he holds that foot off the ground or is he acting as usual ? Can you post pics of his set up ? It looks odd but not like an injury, no sign of infection.

Pongo doesn't walk weird or anything - he treats his odd toe the same as the rest of his toes. However, if I'm trying to look at it, sometimes it seems to hurt him when I grab it.

This is his enclosure right now. I'm planning to switch the sand out for a different substrate soon. His basking area is 90 - 100 degrees normally.

My guess is hes gotten it stuck in the hammock-- I would replace the hammock w/ a nice piece of decor that offers a gradient heat -- example https://s7d2.scene7.com/is/image/PetSmart/5290971
this piece can be utilized different ways by the dragon --- it can be placed different ways in the tank -- also the sand can be replaced w/ the some NON adhesive textured shelf liner from your local home improvement store that is cheap and easy to clean w/ vinegar / water 50 / 50 solution -- if you want to get another hammock and place on the cool side of the tank you can get cloth ones from here

How long have you had Pongo and how long has the toe been that way ? It may not actually hurt, sometimes it's just a reflex when you handle or grab their toes since they are not used to that. It might be beneficial to change out the hammock like Karrie mentioned just to be on the safe side. I don't like hammocks of any kind really, they don't support the body like a log or other basking platform.

Thank you so much for the great recommendations! I will definitely look into replacing the hammock and the substrate extremely soon. Glad to hear that his toe is probably nothing super serious.
