one of our beardies was bought from a local pet store and is/has always been healthy. Other people, however, have gotten very sick beardies from chain pet stores. They often sell beardies that may have viruses, parasites, are housed in awful conditions, and are too young to be sold. I would not buy a beardie under 6". Also, if you do buy a petstore beardie, look for the most active one.

At 3 to 4 inches they need a ton of care. You may want to talk to a breeder who has raised babies because I have never taken care of one that small.

Our first beardie was purchased from a reptile store. He was 22" long and they had gotten him on trade. He had bacterial pnuemonia and died 63 days later. The pet store did nothing for us.

Our second beardie was purchased from a reptile store. He was 9" long and so far has been in perfect health.

When, not if, I get a second one (another little boy, I hope) I will purchase him from a reputable breeder. I feel like I lucked out and going forward will only purchase from a breeder, probably one of the ones from this site.

There is no way I would purchase a beardie from Petsmart or Petco. They have no information about how to take care of beardies. I know I was sold a ton of stuff I had to replace, including a bulb that ended up making my first baby sicker than he already was.

Its probably best to buy from petco or petsmart to save them from the horrible environment there in

Yeah, I want to rescue all the beardies I see whenever I go into Petsmart for anything, but I know that as soon as someone buys one, they get another to replace it and the cycle continues!

The only problem with buying from chains is that the moment you buy one another is on order to replace it. So the chain never breaks. There are a load of great breeders on this site. Some I have met and dealt with others I have just talked to on here. I would buy from at least 10 or 12 diff people on here. Shop us all find a pooper you like. Do the research. talk to the breeders. I cant think of one of us that dont like talking about our babys. Good luck with your search.
