Waxworms from Walmart?

Stupid question time again.

Our local Walmart sells waxworms (for fishing). It's the only place around here that has them. (Petsmart carries crickets, superworms, and mealworms, nothing more exotic than that.) Since I know they can't be used as a staple, it seems kind of silly to me to pay $10+ for shipping for something that I can buy locally, especially if there's a chance Wave won't like them (she didn't like silkworms) - if, that is, the ones I buy locally are safe. I know they won't be gutloaded, but if it's just as a treat, I'm not too worried about that - but does anyone know if they're likely to be safe for Wave? I'd love to let her try some.

If I'm going to pay for shipping, it makes more sense to me to buy something in bulk, but I don't want to do "bulk" for a treat, at least until I know if Wave likes them. Anyone know - or suspect - the likelihood that it would be safe to let her have a few Walmart waxworms?

Thanks! :)

Do the waxworms have a company name on them that they come from? You could check out the company to see if it looks decent. Based on the condition of their fish, Walmart doesn't take great care of its live animals. But since they don't really have to mess with waxworms, it may be different.

Our Walmart doesn't have any live animals, thankfully! (Though it amuses me that the signs continue to point you in the direction of supplies for "hampsters.") I know they're not Equate/Walmart brand, but that's a good idea - I'll check out the company. :) (Have to check next time we're there; all I remember is a red label.)

Quiiiiiiiiiiiiite. If they ever decide to replace those signs (I've seen them in at least two stores), I'm going to ask if I can have the old one.

Cool, thanks! If they're the same way down here, I'll know they should be okay. :)

Where in Walmart did you see the Waxworms? Now I want to check it out. My Petco sells them, but you have to get them on the first day because the fridge they keep them in is too cold. So they die quickly. And it's $5 for 50 of them.. But 50 lasts me 2 - 3 weeks since I only feed about 5 every 3 days.. Except Butters, she gets a couple more than that with her reptis...

You're in a more civilized part of the world, so your Walmart may not have a RIDICULOUSLY ENORMOUS HUNTING AND FISHING SECTION like ours does. (I was pushing very hard to make a move to Massachusetts or one of the other far-northern New England states recently. I was talked out of it... for now. *sigh* )

Anyway - they're back there. :) Where the fishing poles and tackle boxes and such are, there's a refrigerator/cooler where they have earthworms and waxworms for fishing. Since I've never bought any, I've never checked to make sure they're alive. So it may be similar to Petco, and you have to be lucky to find any living ones. Worth checking out, though, if their prices are better!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
