Water crystals actually have a million uses. They are quite versatile. Google water crystals for a ton of links to all sorts of ideas other than watering your bugs.
One interesting use for them I found out is fake ice. The beverage industry uses them to take pictures of their product. Picture a tall cool glass of lemonade with ice. The only problem is ice melts, water crystals don't. So while the photographer is trying to get that perfect shot there's no risk of the simulated ice melting even after hours of photo shoots in hot lights.
Sew them up in a bandanna, soak it in cold water and tie it around your neck, it'll keep you cool.
Just a few off topic uses for water crystals.
Call me crazy, but just out of curiosity I actually tried a bit myself. They are about the same taste and texture of unflavoured gelatin.
