WARNING, Should've considered this before getting her!

As a new dragon owner, I feel it my place to inform others that are thinking about getting a bearded dragon some things they should consider before purchase that are not in the books. Please read and be advised:

1. When you first get him/her you will be completely fascinated. Such fascination turns into obsessive watching from outside of the tank and constantly chatting about obscure lizard things that most do not understand or appreciate.

2. When this simple scaly thing accepts you as a friend and enjoys your company, you will fall completely in love, quite possibly making your significant other jealous (because if your dragon is anything like mine, she will require daily spas/massages and that you cuddle her to sleep every night).

3. Once you have fallen in love, your pet beardie will freak you out. If you are unfamiliar with dragon ways (as I was), any change in behavior/mood will have you researching possibilities for HOURS.

4. Your social media pages, Facebook, Instagram and the like, will from now on be filled with lizard pictures. You may lose many followers, thinking you have gone crazy. But you will also gain lots of new followers, people who love their beardies just as much as you love yours...

5. Your beardie will make you feel like a kid. All day at work you will think about him/her, doodle ideal vivariums, make wish and wants lists, and read forums on beardeddragon.org all day.

6. Prepare to spend more money than planned for... You will love your beardie and want nothing but the best for it!!

If you can handle the above mentioned forewarnings, then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??

Much love,

Kim (aka Lizard Lady)

You can say that again! I missed my first dragon so much while she was brumating, that I got a second one! :D Its funny to watch them notice each other. Their body language is hysterical!

I have yet to experience brumation! Arty has shown no signs of it, I'm surprised with how cold it is here and everything. I can only imagine it being a sad and boring time...

Two beardies would be a blast. That'll take some good convincing to the hubby though, him accepting one was hard enough! One day I'll have a whole clan ;)

It's lonely without them. IzzyLu was 10 months when she brumated. She slept for 3 1/2 months, from September to January. I hated it!!!! My husband was away on business when I got my second one and second set up in October. Imagine HIS surprise!!! her name is Fionna.

Like a lot of folks say here....they are like potato chips...can't have just one.

All of this, so much yes.
In fact, because I was missing them whilst I was at work, I built a beardie webcam - www.vivvids.com/wp/camera - so I can check in on them where-ever I am.
It was brilliant when we went to Holland for a few days - I could check in on them and see they were okay. I'm sure my grandfather was relieved - it meant I didn't need to call up every few hours to see how they were doing, lol! (He was dropping in to feed them every couple of days whilst we were away, which was very nice of him.)

Wow that is a great idea! I might be taking a job this summer that would require me to be gone for a couple of weeks at a time... Might have to get this set up myself so I don't drive my husband nuts with worried phone calls!

As a side note, I take Artemesia out everyday when I get home from work. Yesterday was one of those days where I was frustrated with things near to the point of tears, but I couldn't help but laugh because I had a sleeping lizard on my arm  No one would take me seriously! I am doomed to eternal abnormality....

I use a Tenvis IPRobot3 - technically, it's not supposed to do embedded images, but a bit of prodding, and we got there. If you're just using it for your own remote viewing, the TIPR3 has a mobile app (Apple, Android, Blackberry and Windows) so you can check in any time. :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
