Wanting to breed my beardies

Hi, new to this site, but not new to beardies. I have owned bearded dragons for more than 6 yrs, they are awesome pets. I have been wanting to breed my pair for awhile now but I have waiting for them to be ready and me to have the funds to do so. Don't worry I will have room for the 4-5 clutches of 25-30 eggs. I live on a ranch in centural Montana (we have a large heated shop that has empty space). I will also start a few colonies of crickets out there as well. They are both about 4-5 yrs old, the male is the normal/sandfire and the female is the Orange hypo. I guess my real question is if you guys think that they are healthy enough to breed? Do not worry they do not live together the are separated.

As long as you have a good vet to give them a wellness check first, do fecals to make sure there are no parasites. And you have a good incubator to rest the eggs in, I've never bred my dragons as they're all rescues, but I know those things are important. You have the room, so once the vet visit is done, go for it! Just make sure you are prepared for the work involved. I have a few friends who breed. Once the babies are born, it's constant feeding and constant baths, constant poop pick up and it's better to have then separate or in small groups. There are always biters in batches of babies that you have to watch out for. Otherwise, a few tanks with good UVB and basking lights and you're all set!
Do you have people who will want to buy your babies? That can also be difficult. And it's best to keep them until they're 2 mo old, so they're eating well and socialized with humans. That's what I've been told by breeders I know. Good luck!

Yes there will be some people I am going to sell too, and if all else fails there is a really good local
pet shop that is always looking for beardies. And another question, would it be ok if I kept the baby's in a very large circular tank with a diameter of about 8 ft. I would have multiple food and water dishes and multiple basking and UVB lights. Or I could just build dividers and have small groups. (I'm leaning towards being more open.)

Depends on how the babies get along. If you don't want nipped tails and feel, small groups are better. You'll just has to see, as they hatch, how they get along. Sounds like you have everything set up, though. Good luck with the breeding process

Ya I will have to see how every thing goes but I will keep updates on them. I don't know if I'll breed them the end of this year or beginning of next. So if your willing to wait I will definently send one to you. There should be some unique colors between these two. The female is really brightly colored and the male has some unique reds and yellows.

I really truly don't know yet but I will definently keep in touch with you!!! First I hope they both pass there vet checkup!!!!!!!!!! :roll:
