Not sure if this is in the right section but I couldn't find anything more suitable. I was just wondering if just dusting my crickets with this calcium powder is enough to give my beardie, I dont have any muli-vits either :( I dont think this stuff has Vitamin D3 either. Im using the 2 light setup (Reptisun 10.0 + 75w bulb). Any suggestings to what vits or calcium powder i need would be appreciated. Heres a link to the product im using;

In reading the description, I'd say that no, this product does not contain D3 and with a two light system, the supplemental D3 is important to your dragon's health. Here is an excellent product (dust 5 meals per week):

And the multi - vites (dust 1 - 2 multi-vites):

Hope that helps a bit!

Darn, I thought I was giving you UK links but when I looked again it was US. :? I'll keep looking as well. If not, I'm sure there is a good comparable brand in the UK. The main thing is to find a brand that has NO phosphorus, WITH D3. I believe one of the brands talked about here on the boards is "Nutrobol." I'll post when if/when I find something! :D

The woman in a fully qualified reptile shop near me who has alot of qualifications said nutrobol was seriously not recommended as it causes alot of problems apparently or its not good for beardies. wether this is true or not i dont know but she recommended that stuff i have and that she uses that with all her reptiles. Il have a look see what i can find as an alternative to repcal though!

Ah, yes... here is a post from Tracie (Drache613 - moderator and one of our resident experts) from another thread. She details why Nutrobol can be a problem and makes some recommendations:

The nutrabol is ok, but it has vitamins & calcium mixed. Alot of times, when only that is given, they tend not to get enough calcium when taking a supplement that has the mix. I recommend getting either Miner-All or Calypso calcium to ensure he is getting enough calcium.

(bold mine) A couple of options to try anyway. :)

Here is a link to Tracie's entire post, in case you'd like to see the calcium information in context:

I had a look at the calypso calcium. So if i bought this i would still need some vitamins and minerals right? I had a look at this stuff http://www.everythingforpets.com/zo...le_vitamins.pet/use.id.5.item_id.6621.dept.7/, it says vitamins but looks like its a mix of calcium and vitamins + minerals sort of like nutrobal. so i have no idea what to go for, lol.

Yes, it seems either one or the other, plain cal or cal/multi mixes. That said, our multi-vites do have calcium, so I do wonder if you'll want to dust with straight calcium 5 times per week, and offer the vites (as a source of D3) twice per week. I think I'll check in with Tracie and see what her advice is to folks in the UK. Getting the proper balance of cal, D3 and multi-vites.

I'll let you know what I find out!

Hi Gary,

Here is a cut/paste of the answer I received from Tracie just a few moments ago. I hope it helps! :D

Hello Em,

That can be a frustrating situation when the supplementation is different than what is over here.
You know, if he wants to just give straight calcium, 3 times per week & then give the Nutrabol a couple of times per week, that should be sufficient as long as he keeps up with changing the UVB light every 5-6 months on a regular basis. He should be just fine.
I will look around for supplementation with D3 in the UK, but I have not seen anything over there, either, a calcium with D3.
I hope this helps. If you would like for me to weigh in on the thread, I can, no problem.

Tracie

I don't think it would have to be Nutrabol per se, but a comparable vitamin/calci mix would work as well. Just making sure to get a good enough balance of calcium and D3 into the regular diet I believe.

The best,
Em

Ok thanks very much for your help! I think I'll keep the pure calcium powder I have and just buy some Calcium/Vitamin powder and use that a few times a week like suggested. God why does the UK always get supplied with the poor quality products for every hobby haha :banghead: your lucky!

Thanks again, and thank tracie for me!

Surely! Ah, we have our share of suspect products as well. The good ones I've found seem to be hidden on the internet, or if available in store, marked up beyond any sort of reasonable price. It's maddening... Funnily enough, it's the calcium withOUT D3 that we have a hard time finding over here. And for many of us MVB users, it's a must so... to the internet we go!

Hi Gary,

I am from the UK and use Zoo Med Repti Calcium with D3 (No phosphorus) available from http://www.reptileretail.co.uk/Reptile-Shop/Reptile-Health/Zoo-Med-Repti-Calcium-With-D3-85g.html?pop=0

Naomi

Ooh! I was hoping another UK-er would weigh in. Another possible route for you to go, Gary.

Thanks for popping in here Naomi. I'll keep your link for future reference! :)

The best,
Em

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
