Very Lethargic, Eyes Closed, No Appetite

I'm very worried about Israel. I've already made an appointment with his exotics vet for Monday morning, the soonest appointment they had. In the meantime, I could use some advice.

I adopted Israel a little over a week ago on May 26. He was being re-homed by his previous owner. The guy seemed like he did his best for Israel, but wasn't quite as knowledgeable as he thought. He had all the right fixtures, but all the wrong bulbs. So Israel came with a 40 gallon breeder tank, but only a 75 watt bulb that was heating his basking area to about 85 degree's, and keeping his cool side at 65. His UVB light was a strip light that ran the length of the tank. However, the bulb was a very old Zilla Tropical 25 bulb.

I changed his basking bulb to a 150 watt, and check his temp throughout the day, and it keeps it a steady 105 degree's. His cool side is at 80. I couldn't find any ReptiSUN bulbs anywhere, and had to have one special ordered at a pet store. It came in this morning, so he finally has his ReptiSUN 10.0 bulb, it's a 24 inch tube. His substrate is tile. He gets reptocal dusted crickets daily, along with a variety of fresh vegetables.

When I adopted him he was a bit underweight and dehydrated. The guy told me that he had been turning black lately, and he was. He was very dark. He also told me he had been losing weight lately, but acted otherwise fine. And he did for the most part. But within the last few days, I've watched his appetite decrease dramatically, and within the last couple days, so has his energy level. Now, he refuses to open his eyes rarely at all. He'll switch sleeping area's occasionally, and grab one or two crickets, but he's otherwise become extremely lethargic. He's appeared to have lost more weight lately.

I've been soaking him in shallow luke warm water daily. On Thursday, all day he appeared very aggitated. Pacing the tank frantically, clawing at the glass, and acting just very upset. I took him out for a nice romp, which he typically enjoys, but he continued to act aggitated. This was Thursday. On Friday, the agitation was gone, and replaced by this lack of appetite, closed eyes and lethargy.

Any idea's what could be going on? Could it have been the UVB lighting playing a role in things? Any advice is appreciated!

Forgot to mention that Israel is an adult, about 2 years old, and this his poops look normal. He pooped yesterday, it was hard, round, 3/4 dark brown, with about 1/4 white (and had a little stringyness at the end?).

Hi I am new to beardies and my new 6 week old baby is acting the same way. I can't tell if she's dehydrated or not. I am very worried. How is Israel doing now? Did you ever figure out the problem?

Would love to hear an anwer on this one, Having same issues other than the pacing and aggitated with my adopted Dragon. He is 6 and 18 inches long. this is all very confusing, and he is very dark as well on beard and back. Have no idea if this is his normal state or not though as it seems they did not take great care of him

What UVB lights (type and brand) and temperatures does everyone have? How are you all measuring temps?

I'm wondering about that too. Also, what is the distance that everyone has their UVB's? Is everyone using a bright white basking bulb and have the UVB placed right alongside it?

Israel, a 150 watt household bulb seems like an awful lot for a 40 gallon breeder. One of my tanks is the same size and I'm only using a 60 watt bulb that is 10" from the basking spot. I noticed that you're dusting with Reptocal daily. That product contains both calcium and vitamins but since they need more calcium than vitamins, it's best to use individual supplements. Since your beardie is 2 yrs old, you should be dusting with calcium 3 days a wk and with vitamins 1 day a wk. So, it's possible that he is reacting to too many vitamins and his body can't absorb so much. Here's a link to the individual supplements that a lot of us use and do recommend them: http://www.petmountain.com/show_product/105551/?utm_source=celebros&utm_medium=search&utm_term=105551

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
