Hey guys,

I've started to notice dark circles under Ogo's eyes this week.. I think that they're getting darker too? Is this apart of his type do you think? I don't even know what type he is. I'm stuck between Pogona Vitticeps or Pogona Henrylowsi..

What could be causing this? And how can I change it. I'm open to anything..

I have a reptisun 5.0 t5ho uvb tube lamp, which is apart of my reptisun LED UVB terrarium hood.

Here's some photos of Ogo's eyes and his viv.

This first photo is from the day I got him. He just shy of 4 inches here. Which was about 5 weeks ago now..

These next two photo are from 10 minutes ago. You'll be able to see the darkness under his eyes (I got him to look up for you guys by tapping his screen on top quietly.)

Okay the these last two photos were taken 10 minutes ago as well, these are of his viv.

Please guys, any input on this would be soo so SO appreciated.

Also, if anyone can identify which type of dragon he is, that would be stellar. I've asked on two different forums here and I haven't been able to get an answer unfortunately. His nails aren't dark by the way.

Thank you in advance guys.

Hi there.....he looks good and his eyes are O.K, nothing unnatural about the color. Sometimes they can get a little tired looking if they are dehydrated.....how do you hydrate him ? Where did you get him ? As for a specific morph, he looks like a standard p.vitticeps. Lawson's [ or Rankin's ] would be sold as such, as they are a specialty dragon not commonly sold to pet stores. They are much smaller than vitticeps, reaching lengths of only 10-11".

As for his nails, if they are totally clear, with no grey line at all then he'd be a hypo, but he doesn't look like it. He's a cute boy though, and has a nice set up. :)

Hi. He is cute :D . I would replace the 5.0 with a 10.0. The 5 doesn't give off the proper amount of uvb.

Thanks so much AHBD. Glad to hear it's natural for his eyes.. I mist his veggies twice a day. He actually seems to enjoy watching me mist my own index finger, where he then licks off the drops as they pool on the tip! I do that about 4 times a day so he gets enough water. I also most his fake plants twice a day! I'm going to put ceramic tile down this week, the stickey tile that's in his Viv right now is temporary.

I got him from MyPet was West Edmoton Mall. He wasn't the 'fancy' dragon. He was just a regular little guy. Fresh off the hatch!

Ah he's the cutest. Yeah I was reading for bigger tanks that 10.0 is much better. The 5.0 came with the hood I just purchased, it was $340 so I'm waitin until next pay day to buy the 10.0 tube to put into it instead of the 5.0.

Good suggestion mate.. Thank you!

Hello,

Are you using the High Output slimmer tube bulb by Reptisun, T5? Is it the Reptisun 10 or the Reptisun 5 High Output T5 bulb?
He looks very good, actually. He looks to be a normal pogona vitticeps. How long is he?
It sounds like you are getting adequate nutrition & fluids into him also. He doesn't look dehydrated but he could be tired also. Be sure he gets 10-12 hours of nighttime/sleep time as he is a baby & growing.
Is your basking light a bright white light?

Hey Tracie,

Thanks for your reply. I have the slim t5 bulb as it was the one that came with my reptisun led uvb terrarium hood. I may go and buy a t10 to replace he t5, what do you think? My basking light is a 150 watt bulb. I don't know if you could say it's a bright white light, it's just an expert-terra 150 watt. Is it any different in this case? I have a digital thermometer and all his spots seem to be what they need to be. 105-120 in his basking. 125 on his vine. 80 on the cool side. And I had a zoo med power bar with a timer on it, so his lights are on at 630 am and off at 830 am everyday as per routine. I bathe him every Saturday afternoon as well! One thing I haven't yet used is vitamins since I feel I gut load my crickets appropriately. But I may start dusting them with vitamins twice a week besides already dusting with calcium 5 times a week.

You may want to check the bulb. When I bought the hood, a Repti-GLO 5.0 came with the box, and you want a Repti-SUN 10. Similar name, but a big difference in the bulb.

Yeah mate thank you for the suggestion. I'm planning on getting one this week actually. I just had to make sure it fit in my hood. I bought the 36" reptisun led uvb terrarium hood. Was about $340 Canadian. Bummer I have to grab a bulb on top of it. It came with the t5 bulb!

Hello,

Oh ok, so you don't have the high output light, just making sure.
Definitely be sure it says Reptisun instead of Reptiglo. I do think the 10% would be better than the 5% but I know that most setups don't come with the stronger lights. As long as it is still the T8 (size in circumference) then the Reptisun 10 will fit into the light fixture.
How is he doing today?
The basking temperatures only need a range of 95-110 max with a cooler end of around 78-82 or so.
If there are areas getting to 125 or so that is way too high for him.

Let us know how he is doing.

Hey Tracie,

He's doing great actually. He's been eating more. And he's been a lot more active. I finally was able to get him to eat veggies yesterday. He's still very young so he's not that interested, but radicchio seemed to catch his eye!

As for his basking temps.. I'll definitely lower his hammock a touch, as that is what I'm using for his basking spot for now. I changed his viv around a lot for the first week cause of everything I was learning and that stressed him out. He seems to be well over that for now! I use my digital thermometer to measure his temps on the hammock, and they usually start at 98 and range to 110.
The only spot that reaches 125 is when I point the D.T directly at the black vine, which retains a lot of heat. Might not be good for his belly, although he never usually basks on it. I'll definitely keep that in mind and lower his hammock just a few inches.

I'll be heading into the city this week to score him the t8 10.0 for my hood. I think the 5.0 isn't so bad, but the tank is 36"x18"18", and since the bulb is on the hood and not in the tank, I'd agree with you on getting the 10.0.

Thank you!

Hello Cory,

That is great he seems to be doing a little better & is more active, too. They do take some time eating greens & veggies. At least he liked the radicchio that helps out!
Those temps are not bad, so since he doesn't sit on that hottest portion it should be ok. If he seems happy with his temperatures right now don't change anything so it doesn't stress him out more.
Great, good luck on sourcing the Reptisun 10 tube for him instead. I hope you were able to find it.

Let us know how he is doing! :D

Hey Tracie,

Quick update on Ogo. I was able to get my hands on a 10.0 t5HO for his hood lamp and even before that Ogo was doing even better! His eating habits of being settled in at home are finally kicking in. So cute how the little man waits on his vine every morning perched up for his breakfast!! Ogo's growing a lot of the last 3 weeks as well. I also purchased him a better heat lamp fixture that's more direct, its a national geographic one. I think they are MUCH better built than the exo-terra's. Sadly, I loved exo terra. But as beardie owner, im now finding out (atleast I believe) that zoo med and national geographic are making the best and safest most up to date supplies.

Just wanted to say thanks for your help and i'll upload a photo of Ogo in a couple weeks. He's grown almost 2 inches this month, about to shed for his second time in 2 weeks as well.

Hello,

That is great Ogo is doing so well now! :D
Does he like his high output tube bulb now? I am sure he does, it is quite bright so that should help him out a lot.
It sounds like he has settled in pretty well thankfully. It just takes time for them to get all comfortable & used to their new home & routine. He has grown 2 inches in a month, that is a very good growth rate. Then the torment of shedding for him. LOL He is on his vine waiting for you every morning to have his breakfast, how sweet.
Does the national geographic basking light have neodymium coating on it or is it just a regular bright white flood bulb? Which Exo terra light did you replace?
You are right, most of the companies don't make all that great a quality of lights. Arcadia has some very nice lights also.
I am happy to hear he is doing terrific now!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
