Hi....I have 3 beardies....2 girls and 1 boy. The2girls are Daisy and Alice. The boy is Pablo. Well.....Pablo and Daisy tried to mate the other day but we were able to stop them. The girls are only a year old and think they are still to young to breed. The girls have always been housed together (yes I have read u are not supposed to house them together but they have always been good with each other). Anyways.....today I had the girls out on the floor together and Daisy just ran over to Alice and started bobbing at her. She has NEVER done this before! And then.....she tried to 'mate' with her....anyways that is what it looked like. She tried to push herself up by Alice's...um...opening  . It looked like what Pablo and Daisy were trying to do the other night. I am slightly confused to what just happened. If anyone has any answers to ease my mind it would be greatly appreciated. Oh.....and the girls will now be separated and in different tanks. My poor Alice is a little traumatized.

I believe bearded dragons reach sexual maturity around 1 year of age or earlier. I know two bearded dragons kept by my science teacher (who were both thought to be male at the time) mated before their first birthday and ended up with five viable eggs, all of which hatched.

Also, I don't know if it applies to beardies, but a lot of species' females "practice" mating with other females or males. My female dog occasionally does this to my male dog even though they are spayed and neutered respectively. It may just be your beardies have a lot of new hormones rushing around their bodies as they reach sexual maturity.

Thanks for the reply! It makes sense that she may be 'practicing'. It was just so weird seeing this.

That is not practicing mating, that is a dominance act. Your female is trying to show your male she is more dominant and higher up on the pack chain.

It is probably the same with Dragons. A dominance thing.

Dragons can mate as young as 4 months but it is very dangerous for the females. You should never allow your girls around the male unless you want are wanting to breed.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
