UVB Lighting Help: I need to replace my bulb

Hi guys,

So my current beardie is the first reptile I've ever owned. I got him over two years ago from a local reptile store and at the time I had bought all my terrarium gear (light bulbs, fixtures, tank, etc.) from the exact same place based on what they had recommended

The UVB lamp I got was an exo terra 10.0uvb t8, 24". Last year I replaced the lamp in October using the same brand (I got it off amazon).

Now heres the problem: I cant find the replacement bulb this year. It is out of stock on amazon and the reptile store I bought it from hasnt had it in stock. I initially tried to order a replacement and couldn't find it in August. In October I tried to order it again and no luck. I called the store to put in an order for me back in early October and never called me back. I called since then and they only told me that they didn't know when it would be back in stock.

Its worth noting at this point that I don't currently live with my reptile, I moved away to university in the fall and the place I'm renting would not let me take him so he's in a different city than me. My parents are taking until I can find somewhere else to live. Because of this I cannot at present check the exact specs of my fixture, in fact I can't even remember what brand the fixture is.

I have gone to several different stores in my hometown, the city I'm currently living in, and my grandparents city. I've checked local places and big places like petsmart and I can't find the bulb.

Do any of you know if a different brand might fit the fixture? If I need to replace the whole fixture and bulb what would you guys recommend? The petsmarts sometimes carry t5's, I'm not entirely sure how those differ from a t8. Any advice is appreciated.

If it's a T8 tube, even if it's mounted in a good quality reflector hood and the hood is hung UNDER the lid (no mesh between the tube and a basking dragon) your dragon will never get enough UVA and UVB unless it can get with 6" of the tube (even if it's a 12% UVB T8 tube). A 10% UVB T8 tube is even weaker.

I strongly suggest upgrading to a T5HO 12% UVB tube and hood and making sure the new tube is mounted UNDER the lid , in reflector hood and no farther than 12" from basking spot.

You are in Canada , so order from somewhere like LLL Reptile in the USA by mail order.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
