we recently rescued a baby dragon who had recieved a bad bite on his lower leg.the lower part of the limb had shrivelled up to round about the knee joint.we took him to see a vet as soon as we got him home, but the only vet we could get in to see wasnt a reptile specialist so we are a bit concerned.he prescribed batryl 2.5% oral solution and we were told to give our beardie 0.1mg a day for 10 days.our beardie was fine the first two days then looked very tired on the third which was yesterday.today we havent given him any as we are concerned that the vet has been wrong with the dosage for a baby or even if you can give a baby this antibiotic as we have heard it is very harsh on their system.does anyone know the correct dosage of this antibiotic for a baby beardie? his leg needs amputating as well and we are supposed to be taking him back to have this done later in the week but dont wanna take him back to the same vet if he isnt sure with bearded dragons.

I am not sure about the dosage but you need to give your baby probotics such as soy yogurt. Baytril is very harsh on them and you need to keep it really hydrated with fluids and extra baths. The probotics will replace the gut flora that Baytril kills. Without gut flora, the baby won't be able to digest as good and get a tummy ache. Baytril is good for infections just really harsh on their kidneys so this is the reason you need to keep him/her hydrated.

Hopefully, Tracie will come on and help with the dosage. How much does this baby weigh? She will need that to calculate the dosage.

as an estimate he weighs about 10 grammes, very light! he has been off his food the past two days and was eating fine before he started on the antibiotics.we got some soy yoghurt today and he has had some of that.

Wow, that is a tiny baby. I don't have experience giving antibiotics to that tiny of a dragon. I would continue with the probiotics though and give a few soaks in warm water a day to keep the baby hydrated.

Hello,

Whew that is a tiny baby! Sandy is right, continue with the probiotics daily.
Unfortunately that dosage is WAY too much for his weight. At a conservative dosage which is 5mg/kg & for his weight of 10 grams is .002ml. So, at .1ml that is way too much. The only way that dosage would be correct is if it was really diluted but you mentioned it was a 2.5% solution & that is how I figured the dosage.
I would not give anymore meds either. He has had enough meds, to last him a long time.
You will want to begin rehydrating him immediately with a water & pedialyte solution, daily trying to get oral fluids into him a few times per day & bathe him daily as well.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
