Unsupportive family

Puff hasn't been eating like he usually does all week. Nothing in the past couple days. He's still pooping everyday and doesn't seem lethargic, but as any beardie parent would be, I'm worried. He is about to shed and his apitite has dropped a little before but not to this degree. My main issue is an unsupportive husband. I want to replace his UVB light incase that might be contributing to the problem but me hubby put his foot down saying that getting a new one would be a waste of money sense ours is only a couple months old. I do understand that argument but if thats not the problem I can always return it. He says he will eat when he's hungry and I should calm down. I guess I'm just a stressed out mommy. I totally spoil Puff (blanky, leash, bath every morning and not to menion his toys) and so everyone around me assumes I'm over reacting, but the ones closest to me should understand that he's more to me that just a "pet". Theres my rant and I feel so much better for it.... Now I'm off to buy a new light :)

My girlfriend is a lot like your husband. Bob is a spoiled brat... he eats off a italian crystal tea saucer and his superworms are always fresh molt. She always says I treat him better than our own kids. What I did is started the United Bob Foundation which consist of a empty Culligan water jug with his picture on it and I stick it at work and at the entry way at the house and ask people with loose change to donate to his fund. I usually come home with around 50-60 bucks a month and that covers his food and husbandry supplies. Other than that she knows better to tell me not to do something because I'll do it anyways just to get under her skin. :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6:

I have the opposite type of guy, what I say goes  He knows I can play dirty. But i'd say tell your husband the dragon deserves to be healthy, plus a vet costs ALOT more then a bulb

Thank you all for the support. I knoew that everyone here would understand. I do usually get my way but I hate that it comes between us. I don't want to have to take Puff to a vet if this doesn't change, esp if it was something as easy as changing the lights. I would be heart broken.

Just tell him its the couch or the bulb. That kinda stuff usually works. Or threaten him with no house-hold duties for a month. That kinda stuff is more important to us than a 50 dollar bulb lol.

My boyfriend does not like reptiles in general. When he comes over I'm always like "Look at Citrine! She is getting so big! Watch me feed her a roach"... and he says "how do you like those things". Frustrating yes, but at least my mom shares my passion for beardies with me. I guess we must deal with these types that don't appreciate the beauty and pure awesomeness of reptiles.

I got really lucky with my fiance. He wasn't an avid reptile fan until he met me, and now he's almost as bad as I am! I sometimes joke that if we split up, I'm keeping the lizards, and his response is that we'd better not split up because he doesn't want to loose them  I think life would be really hard if he didn't like them as well; I couldn't imagine having to deal with an unsupportive spouse. :( Hopefully once he gets to know your beardie he'll come around!

My husband wasn't much of a lizard person either. When I got Phoenix, he wouldn't even touch her. When I brought her home, I had him do some research about them. He started coming around. Now he loves my little girlie. About 4 months later, I bought another dragon. He didn't want me to because he liked Phoenix so much. Now he loves both of them. No more though. I know where his limits are. He would never tell me not to, but I know it bothers him because he likes spoiling our pets and it's hard to when there is so many. He is also very pet health concious (thanks to me) and he says I can't have any more pets if I couldn't afford vet bills if everyone got sick at the same time. I get his point. He says "Pets are family, not household accessories." I love that man! He would never deny me things that I need for my babies, much less vet care, but if the problem could be remedied early, he'll take that.

Perhaps you should sit down with him and let him know just how you feel. If you guys are going to be married then he should at least pretend to take an interest in things you care about. That's what I had to do with Scott. I did things for/with him that I don't particularly care for, but some common peace is worth it in a marriage.

Good luck sweetie! I hope your baby comes around soon!

lol...My boyfriend notices absolutely nothing, I had Vulcan (my 14th dragon) for two months before he realised there was a new reptile in the house.

I replaced the the bulb and sure enough Puff has magically turned back into a little piggy :blob5: . Mike and I had a long heart to heart about it (and I didn't once say I told you so, although I wanted to  ). I had to bring up his dog that he lost about five years ago and how upset he was about it. I explained that I would be as upset about Puff getting sick as he was about his dog. After this was all said and done I felt so much better. It wont take long for Mike to be under Puffs little spell, I caught him baby talking to him last night

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
