Then a month later she started sleeping a lot, but I woke her up with a bath and then she'd eat a little. She stopped eating again a few weeks ago, maybe a dandelion leaf now and then. The vet took x-rays and said she has calcifications thru-out her organs and her bones are thinning. He said she is dying and she knows it, and that is why she is sleeping and not eating. She perks up outside, but can barely stand up. He said I could soak her in pedialyte to make her a little more comfortable than just a water soak, so I did. He said his guess would be 2 weeks or so. I pretty much knew before I took her that she was dying, but wanted to be sure there was nothing to be done for her. But, now how do I stop crying everytime I look at her? In 2 weeks I have to be away for 2 nights for a family affair, I will be so upset if I am not there. (My neighbor is watching her, so she will not be alone) Sorry, but I just had to talk to someone who understands. Thanks for listening.
Hi dors.
Excuse my French, but it is a [inappropriate word removed] horrible predicament for you - for both your dragon and your cat. I had to tell the vet to let my little princess (greyhound) "go" whilst she was under the knife - on the phone whilst I was at work - it broke my heart, but I knew it was right. (She had a tumor wrapped around her liver). We quickly had posters of her printed and put them around the house so she is never forgotten. She had been sorely mistreated before we got her, and trusted no-one. But our two or three years together, she came back out of her shell and became the cheeky mare we now remember.
It is clear from your post that your love for your pets is massive. So, hard as it sounds, don't grieve so much as celebrate the fact that they spent their time somewhere they were loved. They could have easily fallen somewhere where life was cruel and harsh - they didn't...they found you. And in this big, often horrible world, that is a good thing. Animals do seem to have a sense of when they are going to die - I think yours will go with a smile on their faces. If they drank and smoked, I am sure they would be chuffing a cigar and toasting you with a fine glass of port.
They did well & were loved.
Raise a glass.
