A deformity shouldn't never be bred, not matter how cute it is. You can see that his tail is kinked and I'm betting that he has other internal problems. I have a relative who bred dragons for a number of years and I've seen a few of these stubby babies, they usually don't live more then a few months.
I've also see true dwarves with short little legs, they don't usually do very well either.

Oh no.... I was worried about that :(

Does this deformity have a name?

I'm glad you said that Gail.. no matter how cute something is.. a deformity should never be 'bred' intentionally... Seriously..

I hope this little guy makes it longer than a few months.. maybe he will be the exception instead of the rule. Honestly, if you don't know what to do with him, I will take him and give him the best care possible no matter how long his life is... I'm a sucker for animals in need. Hence my 2 adopted dogs :D

One could argue that all the morphs of the reptile industry across all species are genetic flaws. From a piebald python to a fantailed goldfish. Hypo translucent silkbacks are ok, but dwarfs are bad? Should human midgets not have a family? If it doesn't negatively affect them, then what does it do? Makes them cute? Thats a bad thing?

Now if the ones produced before didn't do well, then thats another story all together. Of course the first hypos and translucents were not healthy from what I hear.

Do you have a herp vet in your area? I think an xray would tell a lot about whether the little one is "right" internally. He/she is adorable, I truly hope he/she is healthy!

Yes I have a herp vet near by. I have been thinking about getting an x-ray when she( I just checked and it seems to be a girl!) is a little older. She is only a couple weeks old.

I don't think anyone is purposely giving birth to human dwarves because they are "cute." Dwarfism does negatively affect humans as well as animals. It can cause deformities in the bones, difficulty with daily tasks, internal problems, and leaves you more prone to diseases like arthritis or back problems. Purposely creating an animal that will have a difficult time living seems cruel to me. I hope whoever takes this little guy gives him the best life he can have, even if it does end rather short.

Coloration such a piebald in pythons are not necessarily genetic flaws. The only reason they do not crop up often in wild animals is that they usually cause the animal to stand out from its environment (albinism, etc). These animals are easily preyed upon and the genetics that cause such colors die out with them. In captivity, there is no predation so these natural variations in color can thrive.

I personally think silkbacks seem unhealthy since they do not have the scales to protect their skin from their environment, other lizards, and seem like they would injure their skin more often than regular animals (rubbing while shedding, etc). I would be interested in seeing how the "durability" of silkbacks compares to that of regular and even leatherback dragons.

Edit: I just wanted to clarify that I'm not attacking anyone but would like to keep unhealthy genetic traits from these animals. Any breed or morph of an animal that causes a purposeful physical handicap just for the look is something I just don't want to support (English bulldogs, munchkin cats, etc). I don't want to see another "twisty cats" issue arise (if you haven't seen these cats, they were purposely bred from genetically deformed cats so that they have deformed front legs).

I agree but we don't need to decide this little guys fate based on guesses no one knows for sure the fate of this guy he could turn out to be a very healthy large adult I personally if I had this guy I would care for him just like any other animal just because there different doesn't mean they should be treated any different(minus special needs that might arise) this guy deserves the best chance at life possible very cute yet should not be bread just to help prevent this I would love to care for him or her. Animals are similar to us yeah even we have problems arise in humans like little people big world yeah if this guy was bred its not a garantee there's gona be more dwarfs like him they had three kids yet only two was effected yet with beardies there is more of a chance since there is more numbers produced that is why he shouldn't be bred because there is the likely factor there will be more and even not the first ones it might happen on down the family tree. So this little beardie should not be bred but please people don't be guessing this little guys fate heck there's two headed animals live long lives yeah its a deformity but thanks to human they have a real chance of survival so somebody needs to give this guy a fighting chance I would love to be his care taker but this little guys owner should divide. Did anyone ever think she might want to care for him with everyones help on this forum she could keep us all updated. That's if she decides to keep him that is.

Oops, I should've moved one of my comments when I edited that. I did mention that I hope whoever raises him gives him the best life he can have, even if it ends up being a few months. If all his internal parts are in the right place and in working order, I don't see why he wouldn't make it. :)

I'm on the fence about keeping her or finding a nice home for her. For now, she will be with me so I can watch her and know that she is being taken care of properly. I'm determined to find out some info about them. The only reason I'm undecided about keeping her, she might thrive better being an only dragon with 100% attention on her. I think it is awesome when people can spoil them rotten :)

I don't think her particular condition is something that should be selectively bred. She seems just as healthy as the rest of his siblings, but her bones are clearly different. I wouldn't want to risk egg binding and who knows what else. If I find a home for her, I plan on making that clear to whomever as well.

I'm going to try and get a hold of bloodbank and see what they have to say :) hopefully, the outlook will look good for her!

Yeah I have heard of a lot of people having "dwarfs". Usually, it is due to poor care. Sometimes people get a hold of a rankins and do not know what it is. I saw someone trying to sell an "albino" bearded dragon on CL.. "Very rare". Haha I emailed him and told him that was most definitely NOT an albino. Jerk.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
