Troubles of being a young beardie owner

Man, it is tough to own a beardie and be young! I want whats best for khomez but of course I have no income so I have to rely on my parents, problem is, they think im insane. Pretty mcuh if my parents owned khomez, he would be in a viv with sand, a 5 year old repti-glo BEHIND the screen, and be fed mealworms and ice berg lettuce :shock: Yeah that's how bad it is. So if i ask for something They will always say its not needed or its bad for him(even though he would NEED it) It took so long for me to convince them to get tile, and their still certain he will die because of it, GAH!! I also want to have other pets(crested gecko breeding and a chameleon) I want a taste of all the reptile world(but beardies will always be my favorite) but my parents won't allow it. I try doing chores but my parents also decided to rip me off (every 2 weeks i get 5 dollars ) Now were not having money issues, in fact its the opposite, dad just got promoted and is bringing in extra dough. Sorry for this little rant of mine, I just had to speak my mind right now :mrgreen:

make your own money on the side
mow yards in your neighborhood or shovel snow in the winter.
or go around and ask neighbors if they have anything they need done, like house cleaning, washing there cars
or take a look in your room and take everything you haven't used in a year or don't want and sell it on craigslist.

try not to look at it from the point of view as that they are ripping you off. they provide you with love, food, clothes, a bed and a house to sleep in. they don't OWE you a whole lot more than that, in my family chores were expected to be done because you're family.
i would bet that if you asked your parents to talk with you and you politely asked be given more responsibility to earn more money that they would work something out with you.

but i'll guarantee that if you keep up the attitude that they owe you money because you're there kid that you're not going to get very far.

They owe me nothing, the thing I wasn't happy about was them wanting to treat him so badly. But pretty amazing 1st post, well thought out and clear. Welcome to the forums btw. I was just alittle miffed that they think I'm crazy about doing all this stuff :mrgreen:

my father thinks the cars i like and the music i listen to is crazy but.
i'll probably feel the same way when i have a kid.

i've been in pretty much the same place. when i was 14 i wanted to play paintball (they had a semi-pro team) with my friends more than anything but it was too expensive for my parents to afford so i made a deal with them that if i worked and saved up 400 that they'd pay 200 and drive me to games. and they did..

I'm definately not trying to jump on your back and i appologize if i came across mean or mad.

i spent a lot of time angry as a teenager as i bet most people do but my grandfather told me "if you don't like your circumstances, don't whine. change your circumstances.."

its not easy but if your willing to put in the effort there's nothing you can't do.. my uncle is a farmer in minnesota, he just wrote a check for 375,000 dollars to pay off the last piece of property he owed money on. he's now worth approx. 3 million with no debt whatsoever...

Yeah, sometimes it sucks to be young. :| Now that I have a job I'm not complaining LOL, but I used to feel the same way you do. I had to fight my parents a LOT so I could take better care of my pets: My biggest issue was convincing them to let my rabbit live inside (It took 5 years!), and when I rescued Wink he caused a ton of issues too because I was supposed to rehome him once he got better LOL. Obviously that didn't happen!

I think your best bet is just to show them that you are responsible enough to make your own decisions on some things. Like Iceman mentioned, try getting a side job so you can buy your own supplies for Khomez. I've always had to pay for everything for my pets, including vet bills, so I can buy whatever I can afford for them.

Heh, I always wanted a job at a pet store. But that's...... 3 years from now lucky for me my grandparents have a GIGANTIC backyard. And it's fall (heh minnesota trees) so I'm sure I could get some work raking and mowing.
