Just got a baby today and tried feeding him crickets for the first time. He only ate 3 or 4 which left about a dozen to collect. Picture chaos......HELP!

Glad I was the one who got to hold the baby.

BTW, how long should they bask before eating. We fed him when he came down off the basking spot.

Well...You can always feed him his crickets in a seperate enclosure...a spare tank, or a rubermaid bin. This way you dont have any leftover in the tank, which are notorious for hiding and biting your dragon overnight while he sleeps. This is the most common practice.

Also, they should get at least 2 hours of heat AFTER they eat to properly digest.

He will be in a separate tank for feeding crickets but we still have to get the crickets out of it and back into their container. Today his cage was still cold so he just needed to stay in the "feeding cage" for a while after he fed until it warmed up. And I thought they needed heat before AND after feedings.

I let Moose warm up for atleast an hr before eating.....if he is not completly warmed up he wont eat very much.

I tend to offer my beardie one insect at a time :D saves me having to catch them all!
I made the mistake of putting a dozen crix into his viv and he ate like 2, so I had to pull the whole thing apart to find them all! Then I just pick them up between my fingers and put them back in the tub. If you dont like picking them up, u can buy insect catchers online. I do have one, but its so much quicker to just pick em up quickly.

My way probably isnt the easiest but I just chase the crickets with my tweezers lol. I move in very slowly then grab and put it back in its tub without killing it (most of the time). Sometimes this make my beardies chase the crickets and eat them.

You can put your crickets in the fridge for a few minutes(in some kind of container of course haha) and it will slow them down allot, makes them so much easier to catch.

We put them in the fridge before putting them in the cage but it won't work to catch them and put them back in their container. Today we did one at a time. Much easier. But still only ate 4-5 crickets.

I had the same problem.

I bought a cricket container for $8........it comes with 2 black tubes. I feed Maxx in a Sterilite container and when there are left over crickets it is easy to lay the tub along a side and kinda scoot the crickets into it. They go in pretty easy and tend to stay, as it is nice and dark in the tube with no scary dragon chasing them.

Also......don't dump a bunch of crickets in at once, it is overwelming for a small dragon. Mine gets scared and tries to climb out of the container with more then about 4 or 5 running around at a time. I can get her to eat a dozen at a feeding if I put them in a few at a time.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
