Travel enclosure?

My 7 year old has a beardie, we've had Draco for 7 weeks (since he was 8 weeks old) and he's doing great. He's a really social beardie, and loves hanging out with James.

In May, we have to go out of state for several days. There's no one who can come and take care of him, so we need to take him with us. We'll be staying in a hotel, so I can set up an enclosure, but we won't have room in the vehicle for his 55 gallon vivarium.

Ideas? Is a 10 gallon too small if it's just going to be for a few days, and he won't be in it all the time?

I'd recommend a 20 gal at least. I had been using a 20 gal for temporary container for a while but I'll soon be getting a 40 gal as his travel container(my beardy is full grown and 5 yrs old).

Please not let the little dragon be anywhere near the big adult dragon.

Very risky, others have thought their hatchling was safe near their adult dragon only to have the hatchling eaten by the adult dragon. It can happen very fast.

Best never to let a much larger dragon spend time with very small dragon as the larger dragon (especially if it's hungry) will see the little lizard as a snack.

For travel --- I recommend a tote . converted into a lizard tank. See this for how to convert a tub : viewtopic.php?f=34&t=233480

biggest advantages are :
>> very cheap
>> will only take a hour or two to convert using a few simple tools
>> light
>> very durable
>> stackable
>> see through sides
>> lid can made secure (tubs come with clips that hold the lid on)
>> very easy to clean
>> wheels on bottom to make getting the tank in and out of car easy.

If I wanted to convert my 100L and 145L rearing tubs to travel tubs all I'd need to convert them is
>> a 12Vdc to 220V50Hz ac converter to run UV tubes and heatpads.
>> some screws up through the bottom into the base of the hide (to secure it in position - can become a big heavy projectile in an accident that can hurt the travelling lizard)..

I have tie-downs and bungee straps that can be used to hold the tubs so they wont move about.

Others have used fabric / foldup small dog carriers in the situation and had a tub for in the room.

I like to travel using a pet carrier that can strap to a seatbelt for security. This is what I use and it's wonderful https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EW2WKZU/ I bring along a clamp lamp and an adjustable stand to hang a basking light from and that takes care of the heat needed. I used to bring a childs playpen too since they pack up nicely but they can climb the mesh sides pretty easily so it rendered it pointless. Now I just set up the lamp in the hotel and use the bag as housing and bring him out for a bask in the morning and it works well.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
