Hi all! Well, I had Cairns(new rescue) for about 3 weeks before I decided to take him in. Let me recap on his history:
He was a dragon I got at my local reptile shop. i was "told" that he had trouble getting out of hibernation and he wouldnt eat. He too, had eyes that were differnt looking and was a concern for me (I've never seen anything like it before); for picture, go to my introduction thread: New rescue-CAIRNS. Once I took my new one home I began by giving him a warm bath, he had his nose under water for 30 seconds or so, but he did left his head up but his eyes were still closed. i then put him on the grass- no response. Everyday, i keep giving him a warmer and warmer bath just to get some reaction from him; little by little he would open his eyes (for a short period of time) and he would start walking on the pavement, but he would not eat for me. i then started giving him liquid calcuim (so he can have something in his tummy) and that seemed to help short term. From time to time he would get a little more active. I than began to force his mouth open to feed him butterworms; he has taken to those very well, but I again have to had feed him. At this point, I thought Cairns was blind; his eyes werent delating in sunlight or to light for that matter. So as of the this past Tuesday I took him to see the "reptile God" in my area. I told the Dr what I was doing for Cairns and my concerns and he stated that the dragon could be an older one and that he is just slowing down due to age.Because his eyes did show signs of hazyness, he also said the Cairns weight is not what it should be at; so he suggested that I keep packing on the pounds by hand feeding him. The dr couldnt find anything alarming wrong with him; which is a good thing. So for 2 weeks, Im going to "try to" pack on the pounds onto Cairns and take him back for a recheck to see what other course of action to take (if any). Dr said I could go as aggressive as I want to, that is, give he a shot of antibiotic (that could or could not help) or do blood work. Well, gang any thoughts on how to pack the pounds on?
Take care
