Too big?

Hi there,


My beardie Orion, has just started to go onto medium size crickets. On Sunday she will be 4 months old. Before she used to eat loads of crickets and chase them down. However now on the bigger one she eats about 4-6 and them gives up and goes back to the basking spots. Her poops are pretty huge now though. Is this normal or should i put her back on the smaller ones? The crickets are about the size of the space between her eyes, some a little smaller, some a little bigger. I make sure she has nothing too big. She seems to eat them fine.

Any idea anyone?

As long as the crickets are fitting between her eyes like you are doing then they shouldn't be too big. As long as her poop is still normal all is good ie: no discoloration or chunks. My little guy has days where he will eat 10-15 crickets in a sitting and other days where he will only eat 3-5 and be done for a bit so I don't think that's anything to worry about especially now that she is eating larger crickets.

That's the benefit of offering larger prey items - you don't need to feed her nearly as many! Sounds like she is now eating crickets that are a good size for her, and fill her up without her having to eat as many. That's a good thing! A larger cricket has a larger belly that you can fill with gutload.

She just pooped like this today..she has never pooped like this before...could this be because they are too big?

:shock: That does not look digested enough. That's some serious chunks if all those legs are from the poop. I'd go back to the smaller ones. Are you supplementing calcium and vitamins? Good UV bulbs?

Yeah i have the Nutrobal which is a calcium balencer and has multivitamins in it. I also have a UVB Arcadia 12% D3 Tube, which i heard is one of the best. This is the first time, i've seen her poop like this. She went back on the smaller ones this evening.

my little 2 and half month old eats 3/4 sized crickets and smaller no poop problem here and I also have the same Arcadia bulb as you...I'd check his basking temp might need more heat
