Hey everyone,

I was hoping to get some help from the more experienced than myself. I see a lot of custom built vivs that you guys built and they are amazing. :notworthy:

Hopefully I will be building my own soon, most likely 4x2x2 and I was debating whether to either use a

1. Reptisun 10.0 and a basking lamp
- or -
2. A Megaray mercury bulb.

I see the benefits and negatives of both but I just can’t decide. I would like something that’s neat and easy but I also want what’s best for my dragons. Hopefully someone could give me some insight and swing me either way. Possibly post some picks and give some past experiences with their set up. :help:

Hello,

WEll, it mostly will depend on how you are building your tank. Remember, the Megaray 100 watt, needs to be 12 inches away from your dragon & will need a ceramic light fixture for safety.
A Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb needs to be 6-8 inches away, & to be used in conjunction with a bright white basking light such as a halogen light.

Ok… so I spent a whole 2 minutes on MS paint at work to show you what I was planning so don’t flame the art work lol…

My father and I have some carpentry skills and could make it to any height we would like so that wouldn’t be a problem. I like the mega ray because it can stay high up where as the reptisun would have to be closer to the bottom and I would have to look at that exposed tube all day.

I wonder is the mega ray is better for my beardie and if so how high I should be putting the 100w to get a nice 100F-110F basking spot?
