To and Fro - Dash's thread

I thought I'd go ahead and start up a thread for my new beardie, Dash. Dash was bred by Tom at TnD Dragons. He was hatched June 11, 2010 and is the son of Gemini and Dozer. He's a citrus pastel coloring.

Dash arrived today after the long overnight trip from Pennsylvania. He arrived and was left by the front door, unannounced, by UPS. Fortunately, Tom PM'd me here on the forum to say he had the delivery notification so I rushed out and brought him inside. He made the trip in good shape and has spent the afternoon exploring his viv.

He left me a nice poop already, which convinced me that having some natural driftwood in the viv was a bad idea as it's difficult to clean and sanitize. First lesson learned

Around 6:30 PM, he got his first bath here at home, which he seemed to tolerate but wasn't too excited about. I wasn't able to pick him up yet, as I'm too scared I'll hurt him, but he was happy to crawl onto my palm. After his bath, he chowed down on 10 crickets, which seemed to satisfy him, so I left it at that. I'm pretty sure he's eaten some greens, but I haven't caught him at it yet

Lights out will be at 9 PM and that will be his usual schedule - up at 7:00 AM and lights out at 9.

All in all, a great first day!

Interesting - the third pic was just the full length shot of the second pic. No idea why that should violate any terms of use unless maybe I am over some storage quota. I do have a lot of pics up there and it's a free account.

hmmm, i wonder if the photobucket bots misinterpreted it and thought it was a naked person or something. that would be funny.

LOL - that would be hilarious. The only other thing that comes to mind is maybe some bot or staffer thought it was animal abuse or something. I've emailed them to ask why it was removed and I'll repost it if I can.

Well, I did Dash's latest weigh-in on time last Saturday, but I'm just getting around to posting it now

Anyway, he clocked in at 257 grams this week, another whopper of a week at 29 grams! With that sort of gain, I just had to take this photo when the opportunity arose:

Does this branch make my butt look fat?

And on a somewhat related note, here's a quick shot of Dash's new housemate. Just picked her up today, so no name has struck me yet. She's a Metallic Giant Pink Toe tarantula:

also, that is a gorgeous spider! really makes me want to get one again. but alas, my wife would NEVER let that happen. she has pretty severe arachnophobia

Well, I am undecided whether Dash had a good or bad week this week

He's been a little lethargic looking, but he's been eating and pooping regularly and otherwise seems just fine. At his weigh-in however, he's lost 2 grams, down to 255. Now it's entirely possible I screwed up last week's weigh-in but I don't think so. So, needless to say, I'll be watching him like a hawk this week and will hope he adds some weight next weekend. He had his bath today and swam around like usual, as well as side dancing trying to get out of taking it Most of the time he seems like his old self, but then at others he seems just a little bit slow. It is cooler here, but his tank temps are all normal so I doubt that is it.

What does he think he's doing, making me worry?

Roommate yes, cagemate no, and as a roommate the two cannot see each other At this point I am unsure who would eat who!

Oh, gosh, you had me stressed out there! :lol: I was thinking, if the tarantula wouldn't eat Dash, then Dash would eat the tarantula, which would probably kill him! :shock:

Well, I feel much happier this week. Dash put on 25 grams, up to 280, so I guess last week was either a week off or a goof up by me I finally got a good length on him too, at 17 inches even.

Here I tried to catch him while he had his beard flexed out, but I just missed it

Been busy with the holidays so missed a weeks update but Dash is doing well. He's now up to 313 grams so a little slower growth than he's been doing but I'm feeling much better about it now. His poo has been back to normal too, well-formed with a nice urate sheath, so maybe something had him under the weather a bit. He'd been exceptionally antsy earlier this week and coupled with the off-color of his tail I figured he was getting ready to shed again. Sure thing! He was a bit cranky this morning dragging this bit around like a speed brake

Still has a bit more shed to work off there. The color difference is quite obvious.
