tips for sealing fake rock- not shiny

I am interested in making a fake rock or castle and I am trying to find a sealant that won't leave the outside shiny and smooth. I would rather have it kind of gritty and dull. Any ideas? I was thinking to use sanded grout but then wasnt sure about the shiny part. thanks! :mrgreen:

Someone(not sure who) said that if you use the satin type sealer it wont come out as shiny as gloss. I was supposed to put on my first layer of satin sealer on my rock walls today but it looks like rain so I wont be able to. I'll post to let you know how it turns out when I get it done.

Try sprinkling sand on the last layer of sealant, it reduces shine.

Do you have to seal the grout, or can you leave it as is?

Its not a very good idea the grout is very rough, it could harm your beardie. It will also be very hard to clean.

just use penetrating grout sealer, makes your grout waterproof, but you cant see feel or smell it. completely invisible and inside the surface.
But if you do do this make sure your rock doesnt have any extra rough parts because this will make them harder and they will be just as sharp

what if you put an extra layer or two of sealer on the rock and then sand it down a little with sand paper? not sure just throwing it out ther

the spray sealer i used made it shiny and smelly!mine still had that real rock/sandy look but its hard as heck to clean when they poop all over it.I might have to toss mine out because i cant get the poo off of it.

I bought the water based grout sealant from lowes - doesnt look shiny - but when i sprayed it on some of the grout when flying off! so be careful!
