Here we are almost at the end of September. It seems not so long ago that if anyone had said "Have you ever considered owning a reptile?" I would have thought they were crazy...........I was always a cat/dog person. Now I consider myself to be one lucky lady for having 3 wonderful pets and neither is a cat/dog. Alf has been with me almost 2 years(her 2nd year anniversary of coming home is in December, but Gimli is fast approaching his 1 year anniversary of coming home to live with us!!!!!!!!!! On October 8th of last year I was waiting for the big brown truck to pull up to my house.Back ground:
We fell in love with beardies through a friend of ours who had one,I did months of research before getting our ALf because when I first saw her I didn't even know what a bearded dragon was,let alone how to care for one. Then I joined this site and learned more. Then I asked for a recommendations on breeders. I was given the name of 2 or 3 breeders and contacted each one. I found a lady who I trusted and after she sent me pictures I fell in love with Alf after the first picture I saw of her. We got Alf and talked off and on about getting another one for quite a while. One evening last September my hubby came home and asked me what it would take to get another set up going. I told him "You know as well as I do what it's gonna take, you helped me shop for everything with Alf. He asked me to look around, local newspaper, trade paper and find a tank if I could,(Cheaper than buying one in a pet store). The next morning I went out and got the local buy/sell/trade paper...One of the first things I saw in the pet section.........A tank, don't remember now exact gallons, but BIG.I thought the number looked familiar and it ended up being my moms best friend (Ok here starts the......weirdness(I lost my mom years ago. Anyway,I called and got quoted a price $40 for a huge tank told them they would have to wait til I could get a truck to come get it. No honey,we will bring it to your house for you... GREAT,(it comes with all the fish tank decorations, rocks etc..........) told them I didn't need fish tank stuff. (Please keep in mind we were just looking for a tank at the time, not even sure when or if we were gonna get a new beardie right then with Holidays coming on we were maybe gonna wait till after the first of the year.) When they arrived a little while later with the tank, there was the bag of fish tank decorations, etc. I never even looked in the bag. When my son got home he wanted to look in the bag so I said sure. Inside was a resin statue of.............a bearded dragon, same color as ALf and looks like a beardie. When Mark got home from work we showed him what was in the bag and he told me to contact our breeder of choice (Gina from moonlight reptiles) and tell her we had to have another dragon. He said it was meant to be.......... So I contacted Gina, found my Gimli and now almost a year later,he is going through his first brumation.......Anyway.Sorry to ramble thanks for reading and helping me celebrate my 2 dragons and my Freckles who is a gecko and came home the same time as Alf.Freckles is as cute and healthy as she can be and so are Alf and Gimli.
