ok so my dragons been sick for a while now, but we've been to the vet off & on quit a bit & things dont seem to be getting better for him. we actually just went today and he got a shot called droncit (which is the same one he got last time) but anyway he just threw up & its the first thats ever happened. hes not looking good and the area where they gave him the shot was still a little bloody & swollen.. so since the vet is closed i dont know what to do kinda freaking out since this hasnt happened before... so it'd be nice to have some input & have someone to talk to =/

I am so sorry. I am really not sure what advice to give you except make sure to keep him hydrated. If he cant or wont take it by mouth, bathe him everyday for atleast 20 minutes in warm water like you would bathe a baby in. Make sure you wrap him up in a towel when he is done and keep him warm. I hope he gets better soon.

Just a quick reminder about bathing. Never leave them alone for even a minute, they easily drown when sick or disoriented. This is SO important. When you take them out of the bath, pat dry quickly and put back under the heat...a towel is only to dry them off, it can't warm them up because they can not generate their own heat. A sickb eardie is better off to have water dripped on the nose by a dropper or spray bottle, spraying gently on the tip of the mouth/nose, keeping baths limited, especially for very young or ill dragons. Droncit is used in dogs+cats, but I haven't heard of it's use in reptiles. One of the side effects is vomiting. Is your vet experienced with reptiles ? If not, they can do more harm than good. Tracie [ Drache 613] or one of the mods may shed more light.

yeah shes experienced with reptiles ive always been happy with her work until now ive just been worried because he's not showing any improvement. i didnt know droncit was for cats/dogs either. i was actually very upset last night because i had called the after hour number (emergency #) to see if anyone there could help me, like i said he's never had a reaction like this so i wasnt sure what to do, but anyway i ended up calling 2 diff #'s because none of those doctors seen dragons.. i just felt useless & i felt like it was all a big joke.. ya know i expected some help from these people i mean it was the emergency #

It's hard to find a good vet that knows what they're talking about... its aggravating not finding one that specializes in reptiles & you keep getting wrong info! =/

Can you list everything about lights, heat, etc? If it's on sand, replace with paper towels. Try some watered down chicken, turkey, squash baby food via plastic syringe with a pinch of calcium D3 powder. What, if anything, did it eat before it threw up ? I sent a private message to one of the moderators, she's very good with these things and will probably answer later. How big/ old is your dragon, and why was the shot given? I hope we can help your beardie ?

Hello,

I will answer your PM also.
With regards to the Droncit, it is used for reptiles. However, as I had mentioned previously, I believe that he is on too many medications. This will really end up hurting them most of the time, instead of helping.
What is he on the Droncit for? Was a fecal done?
I think all medications should be stopped right now, & if a fecal has not been done, one needs to be done first before any other meds are given.

I think Tracie's right, give him a rest from the meds for a while....he is seeming to be getting sick from them at the moment. Get him hydrated and soon he should eat again. What is his weight ? With a good weight, an adult dragon can go a while with no harm at all without eating, just keep up the liquids.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
