The REAL Slim Shady! (Anniversry Edition!!)

Hey all! I just got my beardie, Slim, a few days ago. My dad called him Slim Shady as a joke and it stuck!

I thought I'd keep a diary-type thing here like many of you seem to do. Every day I get so excited about him, I want to keep some kind of log of his growth. I also want to eventually post a picture of the underside of his tail to get some help sexing him.

Day 1, 11/24/12: Taking him home in a Kritter Keeper. I wanted him to come around on his own, so I put the box he came in in the Keeper and let him come out gradually during the car ride.

He's so adorable, and a little rascal, too! Here are some other pics of him during our first week together:

The first day he didn't eat much, being new to his environment and all. It took a few days, but by day two or three he was wolfing down crickets like it was his day job. He's still warming up to me, very very slowly, but today I saw lots of progress! I dipped a few mealworms in some baby food (I know mealworms aren't ideal, but the store is out of crickets and I'm waiting on a shipment still) and fed them to him, then actually got him to lick some off my finger! He loves Gerber's organic squash baby food... it's just organic squash and water.

He's still not entirely trusting of me... unless I have food in my hands, of course. But hopefully this thread evolves to include more good news about him coming around. :love5:

Were gonna have a problem here jk. I noticed the Eco terra background in your pics. With being small does your little one climb it the background. I had similar one and used it yea looked great. Wasn't great tho he destroyed it and nice vet bill with impaction. It's like a foam he climbed it like a tokay gecko climbing glass. Scratched it up with his nails and must of eat the foam pieces. Was very overwhelming and wished I payed attention more. Just a thought and word of mouf. I go by the books now.

Oh wow, thanks! Yeah, he does scratch it a bit but I've never seen him eat it, and whenever chunks come off I remove them. He loves climbing on it. I might replace the background when he's too big to climb on that one.

Your welcome used the olive oil trick after vet confirmed impaction with x-ray. Then finally went and noticed it in there. Wasn't a problem when he was a baby but stage 2 juvenile oh my became a pro climbing it and climbing down. Background was a great add on looked great wish it was stronger. Still have two backgrounds left from the 36" long tank by exo terra. But I don't know about using it. Female doesn't scratch much but does her running around. Even as adults am not sure.

I'm still working on getting the darker tip of his tail shed-free. I'm not sure if it's just his coloring or a retained shed, but I think it's the latter. I'll post some pictures of it some other time.

He's so beautiful and colorful now that he has shed! Might have to start wearing sunglasses as he can only get brighter .

Thanks guys! That "sweet baby" decided to hiss and beard at me this morning. :lol: some Christmas greeting I get! I just came home from being at my dad's house overnight and my mom took care of him. Fed him live bugs and poop scooped and everything. So proud of her.

probably. he's a prima donna.

hes getting so fat! im worried about it honestly; i don't want him to be unhealthy fat, but im doing what everyone says to do: feeding him what he'll eat in 15 mins. he doesnt even eat that much... maybe 10-12 crix per sitting (i just moved him up to half inch crix, so theyre much more filling).

My mom basically stuffed the entire stocking, so opening these gifts was a surprise for me too. Here's gift number one!:
