The maniac escape artist - fat evil Houdini now with video

I left to go to the store to buy supplies for the worms and roaches. Well, I was gone for about an hour and during that time Toki got out of her enclosure, jumped off the counter and made it across the room under the couch by Scorch's viv. Her current viv has a metal bar top and I thought it was too tall for her to jump up to the grate. I don't know how long she was out, but when I got home the dogs where going CRAZY. They immediately ran to the couch and where whining. I knew something was wrong so I told them to go outside. Then I looked under the CHEWED leather couch to find a cold and frightened baby. Scorch was hiding in her log. I am sure she wasn't too pleased about the commotion either. The poor thing was so traumatized, but it doesn't look like she is hurt. The hubby and Nic are at the store right now buying a different enclose so there will be no more Houdini escapes! Needless to say I will have to lock the dogs in a different room when we are gone. They are usually put in a kennel, but the hubby put in the garage this morning  so I told him it was his fault the couch got chewed cause I wasn't strong enough to haul it back in alone as the boys had all gone shooting with some friends this morning. All I have to say about my mini heart attack is Thank God that it wasn't Scorch that got out (Daddy's favorite) He loves that lizard more than me!! or I would be outside with the dogs!

Thanks and any advice from tegu owners is very welcomed too. There are tegu forums and my son has also been doing research :study: for months, but I would trust a tegu owner from here more than anywhere else :D
Started first body shed today :blob8: wohoo!
Now trying to figure out if we should custom make a cage like we did for Scorch or get a vision cage. Any thoughts?

Females about 3 feet and males 4-5 feet w/ tail being at least1/2 of total length. So, gonna need a really big viv in about 6 months. Still too small to know sex yet, but I call Toki a she because so far all our reptiles are girls. I am going to take her to see the vet in a month or so and hopefully they will be able to tell the sex. They are not as easy to sex as the beardies I have been told until they are a few years old and the males develop jowls like beardies do. I don't want anyone probing my grand baby!

That video is awesome, love the music. haha.

They are so pretty but I can't imagine having a 5 ft lizard running around. :? A beardie is big enough for me.

Now that I've seen one in action, I think they are cute. Although I'm not too sure about the tongue thing. Alot like a snake

LOL, Robin you crack me up. The end of the tongue is forked like a snake and they flick it out allot, but it is thicker. When she licks her lips it is so cute. They are nothing like having a beardie. She wants out and held constantly and if she doesn't get what she wants then it's onto the jumping escape routine. I hope that she will be well behaved enough as she gets bigger to be out and free roam allot. She is still too small now for Nic to have her out while he is doing his schoolwork, so she has to wait for his break in between classes to get attention. I hope that she calms down enough soon to hang out with him. Meanwhile, grandma has been paying some attention to her when he can't. From my understanding they are very intelligent and can be puppy dog tame if you get them small enough and pay LOTS of attention to them. We will see...

She's adorable!! She doesn't look really happy on that leash. Do you suppose that she feels "hampered" in her roaming with that leash on?

I usually just let her run around on the floor, but I want her to get used to wearing a leash so she will not fight it next spring when she is big enough to go for rides in the car and go on outdoor adventures like Scorch does. Just uploaded video of it to youtube. :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
