The life of Havoc the Beardie.

Where to start? I guess I will start by saying Hello to the forum members and introduce my little buddy "Havoc". My wife and I picked him up on Halloween night. At the time he was 8 weeks old. He is a Red Phase and an awesome little guy.
I have been reading this forum for awhile now and have yet to have the time to make a thread about our little eating machine. So tonight I had some time and figured why not.
Be warned, we take a lot of pics of him and I am going to backpost the pics we have taken of him so far all into this one thread.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oct 31.
Here are a few pics of him and his enclosure. The enclosure a work in progress, but all his needs are met with the way it is now.

We have gotten it narrowed down to 3 names now (Razor, Havoc or Nefarian). The new little guy will have a name by the end of the day.

I love the coloring on him and and very happy I ordered the Red Phase as opposed to a Translucent or leatherback. He will be going in a custom enclosure like I setup for my Ball Python once he gets bigger.
We went with grey Astro-Turf as his substrate.
My vote is for Havoc and it is looking like that is the one we will be going with. We do have one other name in mind as well, "Blaze". We will try and settle on one tonight so the poor little guy won't have to be called "Hey You" anymore.

Havoc usually heads over to his plant where he sleeps at around 8:00-8:30pm and then gets up around 9:00-9:30am. Last night though he stayed up until 10:30 or so, reason being he had his first shed since we have had him, he started with his head and then kept going all the way to his tail before he headed off to bed. So he no longer has the big "M" for male written on his belly in marker. I imagine he will finish getting it off his tail later this morning, if he ever decided to get up that is.

Nov 13.
Here are some pics of him now that his has finished shedding all but his tail, he is still working on that. He will be getting a bath tomorrow morning after I get home from work to help with getting the rest off his tail.

His color is much brighter now.
And his temp is only 105 degrees because he was just out of his enclosure for half an hour or so, so the light was off, the temp rises quickly back to 110 degrees once the light is back on.

Nov 15.
Here are a couple pics and a vid of Havoc basking in his hot spot and opening his mouth to thermoregulate. He is loving the temp of the new Exoterra Sun Glo 60W bulb we put in today, the temp on this one is much better the the regular 60W clear bulb we were using. So we gave him a choice of being between 10"-6" from the light on is basking log that way his has a choice of exactly how hot he wants it.

We though about getting an adult too, but decided we wanted a baby so we could raise him and he will age at the same time our baby Gargoyle and Crested Geckos do. We can also handle him from baby on up, so he will be very used to us and even more social. (Hopefully! :)).

And just because we just took these I will post them.

100_0205.jpg

100_0204.jpg

I am reading all the time about them to make sure I give him the best home possible and I did lots of research beforehand too so I knew what we were getting into. And yes, he is growing very fast, we sure notice it. Then again it's no surprise, he is a little eating machine.

He is doing great. Very friendly and curious. He is eating salad and around 25 crickets a day now. He is an eating machine.
His rear left leg is a different color because it is always the first thing to shed.
And with that, it started to shed today, so in a couple days he will shed the rest of his body. He is growing so fast he is shedding every couple weeks.

His enclosure has gone through some changes this week. We added a Hammock, A Snack Shack, new rocks and a new plant.

I took everything out of Havoc's enclosure today to clean it all, and I shook out a bunch of crickets that were hiding in his log, plant and snack shack, so we put him back in to do a clean up of them while I cleaned all his decorations. Here is a vid of him going off on the snackables.

I will keep the thread updated from here on out as well. He has turned out to be our favorite Reptile that I have. He has such personality, and is very active and friendly.

Here is a video of him this afternoon getting out of his neck and stomach shed.

And here are a few aftermath pics, and two of him hanging out on his new house. You can see that he only has the side of his stomach left now. I'll give him another bath tonight and he should be rid of the last of it tomorrow.

Love all the pix!! He's gorgeous!

Not sure what his new house is made of, but if u make it his basking spot, be sure it doesn't melt. Zilla's tree melted so I covered the top of it in a couple layers of fleece. He loves it. And if he does poop on it, just take off a layer!

Thanks. Havoc and I love getting compliments.
As far as his new house goes it will never be used as a basking spot because it is much too tall, I was only saying that because he loves it so much now. But thank you for the heads up on the melting issue.

Havoc is looking as handsome as ever :) his colors are looking brighter after his shed.

I have two questions for you. 1) how big is his home? I love the hide, but i dont know if i could keep Miss' basking spot, slab, & a hide. Shes in a 40 now but i would like to get her a 60 soon. 2) i know you have a snake too...python if i remember correctly. Im thinking of getting a corn snake. Is there a good forum you could recommend? I want to see what a proper set up would be. Websites are saying 20 gal is all you need for life but that sounds awful small. I would like a solid forum to use as a reference instead.
Thanks!

Thank you for the compliments.
Havoc's enclosure is a 192 Gallon custom made enclosure.
Yes, I do have a snake as well, A Yellowbelly Ball Python named Jaxx. http://ball-pythons.net/ is a great site, they have information on all types of snakes and there are a lot of reptile vets, breeders and very knowledgeable people on there. 20G is way to small in my opinion, you want them to be able to at least stretch out fully in their enclosure.

That's very cool that you could get him and enclosure that big. :) I'd be happy if I were him too. Thanks for the website information. I'm definitely a person who lets the animal children run during the day, but a snake is a bit different. You can let them out, but not so much allow them to run like I do Miss. Our mice are well trained, but obviously we can't let them just take off anywhere either. So we handle them a lot and they shoulder sit well and stay close on the couch. i'm thinking a snake would be similar so I want the enclosure to be at least comfortable. 20 gal did not sound right for a 3-4 ft snake at all. I"ll check out the site! Thank you!

Best wishes to you and the whole family. :) Havoc is looking great.

It is nice to be able to have such a big enclosure for him, thanks.
As for letting the snake roam around. I find the best thing if you I am unable to watch him every second is to let him out on the landing at the top of the stairs and close the bedroom and bathroom doors, that way he has nowhere to go other then down the stairs if he decides he needs a longer journey. Then I will just pick him up as I come back up. If I am going to be busy, I just take him and wrap him around my neck, he will stay there for hours without any issues. Main thing to make sure of is to take them out of their enclosure everyday and spend atleast 5-10 minutes handling them, that way they get to know and trust you. I have never had Jaxx, hiss, strike or even ball up at me.
That was a good call on asking about the 20G tank, it is much to small. I know lots of people who keep their snakes in small rubbermaid bins, but I do not agree with that at all. Good luck with your new friend and feel free to ask me anything you have questions about.

Here are some pics of Havoc from earlier today. He is really enjoying his new house, both sleeping inside and climbing around on it during the day. He will stick his face within an inch or two from the UVB bulb. I change them every 4 months and this one was just replaced yesterday.

The background I ordered from the States never did show up, so they refunded my money and I will try and find one online here in Canada instead. So don't mind the cardboard on the back of the enclosure, the walls are wood, but they are also covered with plexiglass, which was never an issue until Havoc brumated and woke up, then he was pretty upset with is reflection so I had to cover the plexi.
I think I will try taking the cardboard off again to test him, he does have some cool stickers on the plexi as you can see in the earlier picture posts in this thread.

I know what it's like to have a beardie go nuts over their reflection. So I can certainly understand the cardboard, to prevent him from hurting himself, they can get very intense about this strange dragon in the glass. Rubio usually plays with his reflection, he runs back and forth & licks it. This winter, though, when he woke up from brumation, he wasn't so pleased to see this strange dragon, but that phase has passed and he's ok with it again.

Thanks so much for all the information. I really appreciate it. If this forum has taught me anything its that general information is definitely not optimal or appropriate care for reptiles. Im looking now at different breeders recommended by the forum you directed me too.
Love the new pics of Havoc. Ive been taking the top off of Miss' enclosure since she came out of brumation & shes all about her lights too :) Looking forward to future posts :)
Thanks again!
