The Adventures of Walrus, Hyuna, Harley & Quinn!:December 21

I had scoured the internet for a bearded dragon that perked my interest. I stumbled upon some silkback beardies and thought they were interesting so I contacted a breeder in my area who had posted an ad in some classifieds I was browsing and waited to hear back.
After a while, I finally recieved a phone call from the breeder, who is from A & J dragons, saying that he had sold the silkback dragons that he had posted but that he had one more in a pet store in his area that he could pick up and show me. So, I got in my car and drove to meet him.

When he got there he seemed upset. He told me that the pet shop had not been taking care of his dragons properly and that he had some bad news.

Turns out that the pet store had housed him with another much larger bearded dragon and it had "nipped" the silky. Nipped is definitely an understatement. His little right arm lays to his side totally limp. It's got visible kinks and discoloration in some of his toes. He was very, very dry due to the fact that they had not soaked him or lotioned him the whole time he was there. I posted on the forums about his arm here : viewtopic.php?f=45&t=194141 If you guys have any suggestions on how to care for this, please stop by and give me some input.

The breeder was furious and took all his bearded dragons that he housed at that pet store. He told me that he did not feel right making me spend the amount we had previously agreed on if I liked the little guy, and that he'd give him to me next to nothing, just enough to pay for the gas he used driving there and back to his home. He also gave me his guarantee that if the little guy didn't make it that he'd give me another silky in his place because he felt so bad about the whole thing.

So, now I've got a poor little injured silky. He's already stolen my heart. I've yet to name the little guy. I'm gonna give it a little bit of time before I give him a name. Here's some pics!

such a heartbreaking story!!! im so glad you came into the story and are changing the outcome :) :)
what a sweety!!!!
so tiny!
awwwwwwwwwwww wow i bet he does have your heart!!!
i think the one thing i learned most from my experience with my rescue dragon, is that in a way, she changed me, she made a massive difference in my life. i think they make you a better person, kinda make you look at life just a bit different ya know? sometimes even make you stronger with them as they fight on to live and get healthy.
And i know it takes ALOT of time, patience, ups, downs, mistakes, and joys along the way.

Idk, maybe you feel the same way or not. but, just reading over this, just makes me give you KUDOS, big kudos :) :)
THANK YOU FOR TAKING IN WALRUS!!!

I feel very fortunate to have received him. After losing Charmander, I didn't think I had it in me to care for another sickly dragon but I found a way and Walrus was the perfect fit.
Thank you for your support! It means a lot. It's wonderful to have people to talk to who care about their dragons like I do. I'll be keeping everyone up to speed!

Little Walrus is eating like a champ. Hasn't really touched his greens since the first day I got him but he ate 7 crickets yesterday and so far 3 today. He seems to be growing already. Is that even possible? It's been 6 days. o_O His skin is brightening up a bit and his leg looks better. He's shedding more too It looks very strange how it looks kind of like peeling sunburn.... He's putting lots of weight on it and not babying it like he was before so I'm confident that his leg will survive the trauma! I'm just waiting for his little black toes to fall off.

I need to measure him. I want to know how he's growing. Updates when I find a ruler....

Update! : 4 1/4 inches!

I feel very blessed that I was given the opportunity to step in and care for him like he well deserves. He's such a riot. He likes to mimic my movements and it's hilarious to see him move his head back and forth with mine. He is very cute and under the burnt skin and the shedding, I can see some color coming back in. He's got some pretty orange on his cheeks. I just want little Walrus healthy and happy.

Took him outside in a plastic tub to enjoy some natural sunlight. He sure was jumpy the whole time but his color suggests he enjoyed it.

They had a reptile day at my local Petco so I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised to see that many of the employees had bearded dragons of their own who were incredibly well taken care of. They were intrigued by Walrus when I showed them pictures and were very knowledgeable about things that bearded dragons require and all that. I will be going back there. Nice to see a pet store that has educated employees who have raised well cared for beardies.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
