Temperature tip for new custodians

Good morning
My tip is concerning temp at the basking side. This site as well as many others say the correct temps should be between 100 - 110 degrees. My tip is that these temps are arrived at using various instruments. These instruments could be WAY OFF due to age or just plain worn out or defective. Every month or two check the accuracy. There are some easy ways to do this:
1. Water boils at 212 f. Stick the probe in the boiling water and read the result. If it reads 212f you are good to go.

2. Our body temps are 98.6f.use this as a check.

3. We have thermometers used to check temps when we have a cold, etc. They are cheap at any pharmacy and have plastic covers .

4. Check temps with another thermometer

I just want to make the point that instruments can become defective, it's up to us to ensure that the temps are accurate.

That's a good point. Same thing goes for hygrometers for those who use them. They don't need to be exact, but should be close and checked for accuracy regularly.
