Hi. What kinds of lights are you using? How old is he? How are you taking the temps? 87 is not hot enough for them to digest properly. You need to take the temperature on the basking surface as air temp doesn't matter as much.

That's true. After a year or two, the basking site can be closer to 100 than 110. It's still good to provide a gradient so they can self regulate.

This helps a lot.... I am reading this temperature by a digital thermometer..and the bulb is a 150 intense heat bulb (desert bulb)... and I've been taking the temp by air.. I have the probe under neath the basking hammock...(in the shade)...

Despite all of this... the heated room thing

The probe will give you a good reading. Try to get some readings on the basking site and on the cool side. Keep in mind that the probes take 30-45 min to obtain an accurate reading so leave it in place for a while.

I don't have a dragon but I don't think that one dragon's CHE, UVB, and a basking lamp can make a whole room THAT hot, let alone an entire floor. Even if you have all of the lights on, it shouldn't make a floor super hot. Unless of course, you have more than one beardy.

Try leaving your window open so the air circulates and some of the "hot" air goes outside.

Is it possible to move your beardie to a location on the first floor? The lights can definitely heat a room up. When I had one of my dragons in my sons room, I kept the ceiling fan on all the time. Hopefully you and your family can figure something out.

What sort of setup do you have? Can you tell us a little about it and what lights you are using? What temps you have and how you are measuring them? You might be able to use different bulbs or fixtures to help improve efficiency.

Would your family be able to help you get a more efficient enclosure for it? Enclosures without solid tops can be better holding heat so less would get wasted into the rest of the room - you can buy them pre-made or build them yourself.

I cant imagine that one dragons heat source make an entire floor hot... I have a total of 8 basking lights on in my reptile room..and 5 of them are for beardies.. the room gets warm if i dont leave the window open..but the rest of the floor in the house is fine, my reptile room the the middle room in the top level. It is summer... so.. it might not just be the lights.

I have to agree with the others that having a basking light for one beardie doesn't seem like it would affect the whole upstairs. Do you have an air conditioner running during the summer?
